Overview

The Investigative Sciences team within the Early Development Department at Alnylam is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Associate Scientist to join an interdisciplinary team dedicated to expanding the reach of RNAi therapeutics through in vitro and in vivo mechanistic studies. The role requires working knowledge in molecular and/or cellular biology, strong interpersonal skills, the capacity to multi-task, and the ability to learn and master new techniques in the field of RNAi. We particularly seek someone who is detail-oriented and who will flourish in a goal-driven team environment under tight deadlines.

This position is onsite and will be in Cambridge, MA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support a variety of investigative, mechanistic siRNA research efforts to evaluate RNAi compounds by applying various biochemistry and cell/molecular biology assays.
  • Maintain and manipulate diverse mammalian cell lines and primary cells. Perform transfection (lipid-based and electroporation) and free-uptake for siRNA delivery. Quantify siRNA/mRNA/protein using various assays (qPCR, Western blotting, ELISA, immunoprecipitations, imaging).
  • Develop, validate, and troubleshoot cell-based assays (e.g., cell viability, reporter gene assays, and high-content imaging) to assess siRNA / monomer safety profiles. A willingness to learn new techniques to support in vitro and in vivo studies.
  • Rigorously analyze complex datasets using software like GraphPad Prism or FlowJo etc.
  • Present experimental results clearly to cross-functional project teams to influence drug design.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Biology, Cell/Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related field with 3-5 years of work experience preferably in an industrial setting, preferably in a field of oligonucleotides.
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques for RNA/DNA/protein quantification, ELISA, RT-qPCR and cell-based assays. Experience in Fluorescence microscopy (e.g., confocal, or live-cell imaging).
  • Excellent lab technique and ability to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) are required.
  • Excellent organization, documentation, and record-keeping in ELN.
  • Passionate about scientific discovery and eager to learn new skills and contribute to the success of the organization.

U.S. Pay Range

$80,000.00 - $120,000.00

The pay range reflects the full-time base salary range we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Base pay will be determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, and education. This role is eligible for an annual short-term incentive award (e.g., bonus or sales incentive) and an annual long-term incentive award (e.g., equity).
