Where you will work:
The Augusta mill sits along the Savannah River, on the state border between Georgia and South Carolina and manufactures light, medium, and heavyweight coated paperboard. It is a well-invested SBS paperboard manufacturing facility with approximately 600 thousand tons of capacity. This facility boasts over 700 employees and has been in operation for almost 65 years. Located on 3,000 acres, the Augusta site operates two paper machines that produce 1,940 tons per day. The Augusta Mill is Clearwater Paper's largest paperboard facility and is critical to the success of our strategy and future.

Augusta, Georgia is a vibrant community along the Georgia/South Carolina border about 150 miles east of Atlanta and 70 miles west of Columbia. Augusta offers a variety of experiences - something for everyone! The area offers historical attractions, recreational activities, music, family festivals, and other unforgettable experiences for fun with a hometown feel. Downtown Augusta is home to many of Augusta's most popular attractions, locally owned restaurants, and nightlife. Students from around the country call Augusta home thanks to Augusta University, Georgia Military College, Paine College, University of South Carolina Aiken, and many technical and educational institutes around Augusta's River Region. What you will do:

Technical & Process Improvement



  • Evaluates new technologies, implements process changes and develops systems to reduce operating costs, increase production and improve quality.
  • Provides technical assistance to production, reliability, and quality groups as needed to solve equipment and process-related problems and develops methods to improve processes.
  • Provides support data for all reports and performance updates.
  • Data analysis to reduce variability or improve performance.
  • Assists with designing solutions to eliminate equipment failures and process instabilities.
  • Develops working knowledge of all process areas in areas including process flow, operator responsibility, major quality attributes and areas for improvement.
  • Develops, coordinates, and conducts technical reliability studies and evaluations of engineering design concepts.
  • Initiates, conducts and documents results of process trials to improve productivity and/or quality.
  • Assists with proposals to justify capital expenditures, help manages technical aspects and assist with coordination of start-up of capital projects.
  • Works with production and other reliability personnel to develop detailed project scopes.
  • Writes procedures, trains operations and monitor compliance for operational, reliability, environmental or quality procedures.


Leadership



  • Participates in the development of less experienced engineers.
  • Provides crew supervision during trials or upset conditions to ensure the trial plans are properly executed.

What you will need:



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required. Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical Engineering or Paper Science preferred.
  • Entry level position with experience in an internship in the manufacturing industry or paper experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of PI (Process Information System).
  • Previous experience using a Production Management system preferred.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel and an intermediate level.
  • High speed manufacturing environment, sustained exposure to high frequency noises, multiple hours standing, walking on concrete surfaces
  • Personal Protective Equipment required in mill environment.
  • Dirt, noise, odor, and temperature extremes.
  • Climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolding
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals used in manufacturing process
