ACCOUNTANT

CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF WATER MANAGEMENT

ADMINISTRATION/FINANCE

Number of Positions: 1

(Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

Starting Annual Salary: B13, $68,616.00 per year

This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

The Chicago Department of Water Management is seeking an Accountant to perform professional accounting duties at the intermediate level where the position works independently on moderately complex accounting assignments, and performs related duties as required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

* Monitor account balances for capital, bond, and loan funds and recommend budget re-allocations to ensure availability of funds for projects

* Prepare journal entries, interfund vouchers and other related general ledger transactions for expense and account transfers

* Participate in the billing, verification of deposits, and processing of refunds for resident engineering services

* Create cost recovery claims and communicate them to external counsel for collection

* Monitor monthly departmental mileage reimbursement requests including a review for accuracy of the daily and monthly summary reports of employees

* Prepare deposits for checks received and process adjusting entries as needed

* Provide support with year-end audit requests for data and documentation related to the preparation of the ACFR and Single Audit

* Participate in grants management including the review of grant agreements, set up of grant awards in the City's financial system, and compliance with required reporting requirements.

* Assist in reconciliations and analysis of fiscal data and prepare miscellaneous reports as needed

* Collaborate with cross-functional City departments and external consultants to accomplish departmental tasks and transactions

Additional duties may be required for this position.

Days: Monday-Friday

Hours: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting or a directly related field, plus 15 semester hours in Accounting
