Position Highlights The Materials Handler I is a Part-Time role and is on the Logistics team in the Finance & Budget division. The person in this role is responsible for preparing surplus electronic devices, including laptops and desktop computers, for resale through the Surplus storefront. The role requires basic computer knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to follow established processes to ensure devices are properly prepared and in suitable condition for sale. This work directly supports the organization's efforts to maximize the value of surplus equipment and provide quality products to customers.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepare, handle, and inspect equipment including surplus desktop and laptop computers.
  • Move and arrange equipment (laptop and desktop) for sale and customer pickup, according to established procedures.
  • Verify basic device functionality.
  • Process restoration of equipment to factory setting and erase stored data using established process.
  • Complete standard operating system updates, including Windows 11 updates.
  • Install memory as directed.
  • Inspect incoming items for visible damage and document discrepancies.
  • Verify incoming and outgoing items against records to ensure accuracy of quantities and items received or distributed.
  • Enter and log equipment in manual or electronic inventory tracking systems.
  • Perform routine physical inventory counts of surplus equipment.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for accounting and record keeping purposes.
  • Provide excellent customer service to members of the general public visiting the surplus storefront.
  • Assist customers by providing basic information regarding the features, functions, condition, and general use of available electronic devices.
  • Answer routine customer questions and provide courteous and helpful service.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of desktop and laptop computer functions.
  • Ability to erase stored data and restore computers to factory settings using established procedures.
  • Ability to complete standard operating system updates and install memory.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and instructions.
  • Effective customer service and communication skills.
