Position Summary

Winston-Salem State University ( WSSU) is seeking an energetic, knowledgeable, and student-athlete-focused Part Time Assistant Softball Coach to support the University's NCAA Division II intercollegiate softball program.

The Part Time Assistant Softball Coach provides coaching, recruiting, administrative, and program-support responsibilities within an Intercollegiate Athletics program committed to winning championships and graduating champions for life. This position works closely with the Head Softball Coach to develop student-athletes athletically, academically, and personally while contributing to a culture of excellence, accountability, sportsmanship, and competitive success.

Duties and Responsibilities



  • Assist the Head Softball Coach with the management and administration of the softball program.
  • Support the Head Softball Coach in implementing the policies, procedures, rules, and philosophies of WSSU, the CIAA, and the NCAA.
  • Assist in maintaining a championship-level softball program that reflects the mission and values of Winston-Salem State University.
  • Support the Head Coach in establishing and maintaining a positive, disciplined, competitive, and student-athlete-centered team culture.
  • Assist with the day-to-day operations and administrative responsibilities of the softball program.
  • Participate in team meetings, staff meetings, departmental activities, and other program-related activities as assigned.
  • Assist with maintaining appropriate records and documentation related to the softball program.

  • Ability to assist with developing and implementing practice and training plans.
  • Ability to motivate and develop student-athletes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with student-athletes, coaches, staff, recruits, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and changing priorities.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in matters involving student-athletes and program operations.
  • Commitment to compliance, safety, risk reduction, and student-athlete welfare.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and professionally in a collegiate Athletics Department.


Days and hours will vary and are subject to change
based on the needs of the softball program and Athletics Department. The position may require evening and weekend work, including attendance at practices, competitions, recruiting activities, team functions, camps, clinics, travel, and other athletic events.


The Part Time Assistant Softball Coach should be prepared to work extended or nontraditional hours during the competitive season and as necessary to meet the operational needs of the program.


Primary Function of Organizational Unit
Provides an NCAA Division II Intercollegiate Athletics program for the University. Provides the personnel necessary to support an Intercollegiate Athletics program committed to winning championships and graduating champions for life.
