Natural Resources Intern - Summer 2027

Position Summary: An intern supports the assigned department by assisting with a variety of tasks, including routine natural and cultural resource field investigations, regulatory research, permit applications, special project assignments, and active participation in regulatory compliance and documentation, to gain practical experience and support their educational development.

Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Compensation is $22.00 - $27.00/hour, commensurate with education.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Assist senior or lead (environmental scientists, NEPA planners, architects, engineers, project managers) with basic natural resources and environmental tasks, including research, simple studies, and regulatory permitting support
• Assist with the preparation of regulatory permits, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents, and associated supporting studies
• Collaborate with environmental scientists, NEPA planners, architects, engineers, and other multidisciplinary team members
• Support site visit and fieldwork activities, such as wetland delineations and threatened & endangered species surveys
• Support the creation of presentation and marketing materials
• Follow established quality control procedures and ask questions as needed
• Learn and apply department and company standards and best practices
• Develop basic permitting, analysis, and technical skills through hands-on experience
• Participate in team meetings and collaborate with team members
• Receive guidance and direction from supervisors and team leaders

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

• Perform other related duties as assigned

• Familiarity in using standard Microsoft Office for document creation and email communication
• Ability and desire to work outdoors in sometimes challenging conditions to conduct field investigations
• Ability to prepare well organized, clear, and concise written materials
• Ability to support work with attention to detail and creativity
• Developing presentation skills, including communicating ideas to different groups
• Ability to manage time and workload effectively with guidance from supervisors
• Strong teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate well with others

• Full-time student in Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or similar discipline.

Preferred Experience

• Academic background in field-oriented studies (botany, forestry, ecology, fisheries, etc.) with field experience preferred
• Coursework in a related field
• Previous internship or relevant work experience

Working Conditions

Work is performed approximately 50% of the time within a general office environment and 50% of the time in the field. Office work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Fieldwork will be performed under a variety of weather conditions and requires the physical ability and stamina to navigate over and around obstacles that are common in the field.
