Therapy Aide - RWJBarnabas Health

At Children's Specialized Hospital, part of RWJBarnabas Health, the Therapy Aide plays an important role in supporting pediatric rehabilitation services and creating a safe, welcoming environment for children and their families. Working under the direction of licensed clinicians, they assist with patient care activities, prepare treatment areas, maintain equipment and supplies, and help ensure therapy sessions run efficiently while delivering exceptional customer service.

A typical day for a Therapy Aide may include:

  • Assists with patient care activities under the direct supervision of a clinician, including patient transport, activities of daily living (ADLs), exercise programs, and pool-based therapy as appropriate
  • Prepares treatment areas before therapy sessions and cleans up afterward to ensure a safe, organized, and welcoming clinical environment
  • Cleans and disinfects therapy mats, equipment, toys, and treatment spaces using hospital-approved infection control procedures
  • Maintains the cleanliness and organization of therapy gyms, waiting areas, ADL kitchens, breakout rooms, and other patient care areas
  • Monitors inventory levels of therapy supplies and equipment, placing and following up on orders as needed
  • Maintains temperature logs and assists with routine inspections of therapy equipment to support quality and regulatory standards
  • Assists with the setup and cleanup of therapeutic activities to support efficient patient care
  • Provides administrative and operational support, including photocopying, monitoring voicemails, data entry, pantry orders, and other departmental tasks
  • Assists with volunteer orientation and may help supervise volunteers assigned to the therapy site
  • Promotes a safe, positive, and engaging environment for children, families, and members of the interdisciplinary care team
  • Completes additional duties as assigned to support the needs of the department

To be considered for this Therapy Aide opportunity:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience working with children, particularly children with special needs, preferred
  • American Heart Association BLS Provider Certification required
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills required
  • Basic computer proficiency required
  • Ability to follow directions, demonstrate sound judgment, and maintain emotional maturity in a pediatric healthcare environment
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the position, including standing for extended periods, lifting and transporting equipment, and assisting with patient transfers
