Responsibilities
Spring, Summer, Fall
* Coordinate trail crew and work to complete necessary trail maintenance through erosion control, mowing, bridge and culvert construction and maintenance and clearing trail edges.
* Hire, train and supervise trail crew members. Maintain daily attendance records and schedules. Conduct disciplinary actions when appropriate.
* Maintain inventory and maintenance of all trail crew equipment including power tools such as chainsaws and brush trimmers.
* Ensure all safety procedures are followed and PPE is worn appropriately during all trail operations.
* Coordinate all trail related projects including bridge repairs, lift line clearing, mountain bike trail construction and maintenance both Alpine and Nordic.
* Responsible for purchasing and receiving of needed equipment and supplies and monitoring monthly budget expenses.
* Conduct grounds and property maintenance including lawn care, parking lot maintenance and hazard tree removal.
* Monitor trail conditions throughout summer to improve drainage and erosion issues on the trails and work roads.
* Work on plans for pre-season snowmaking maintenance including hydrant and pipe maintenance, hose inspection and maintenance, tower, fans and land guns, and equipment inventory.
* Complete major snowmaking maintenance repairs, pipe installation, tower gun installations and any pumphouse related maintenance as needed.
* Perform preventive maintenance on pumps and compressors.
* Perform pre-season inspection of all water pumps and compressors.
* Inspect all valve stations, tower guns and lines prior to season start-up.
* Set up trails to begin snowmaking season.
* Provide assistance to other mountain operations departments as needed.
Winter
* Hire and train snowmakers for all shifts including snowmobile safe driving techniques.
* Supervise snowmaking shift leaders and be directly involved in all training and safety procedures.
* Set up valves and piping for water and air flow.
* Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to and appropriate PPE is worn at all times.
* Responsible for the ensuring excellent snow quality and efficient output.
* Monitor snow guns through hourly checks on conditions.
* Adjust guns in order to create a quality product.
* Move guns throughout the operational period to provide for full trail coverage.
* Determine maintenance needs and make necessary repairs.
* Perform all necessary start-up and shut-down procedures and monitoring of iSno systems to ensure constant observations of systems.
* Monitor pump and compressor operations and perform necessary maintenance.
* Hire, train and supervise grooming team.
* Conduct daily checks of grooming conditions and provide feedback to grooming shifts to ensure the highest quality product available.
* Monitor weather forecasts on a consistent basis in order to make decisions related to grooming and snowmaking operations.
* Work grooming shifts once snowmaking season has ended.
* Work with maintenance crew to ensure grooming equipment is in working order.
* Assist other mountain operations as needed throughout the ski season.
* Work with upper management on capital and major planned maintenance projects to ensure budget process reflects necessary upgrades and operating expenses.
Qualifications
* 5+ years in ski area mountain operations.
* Must be able to work outside in extreme winter conditions on a 24-hour basis.
* Ability to walk up and down steep mountain terrain.
* Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
* Ability to safely maneuver on snow and ice.
* Must be able to safely operate brush and chain saws, snowmobiles, and 4-wheelers.
* Must be able to effectively make decisions regarding changing weather conditions and the effect on snow quality without supervision.
* Experience operating heavy equipment including grooming machines, excavators, skid steer loader and backhoe.
* Ability to work with computer systems including Outlook, Excel, Word Perfect and have the competency to learn payroll processing and purchasing software.
* Organized with attention to detail and ability to work as a team player in a fast paced working environment.
