Job Description:

Purpose:

To lead and manage the Northern Division Self-Performed concrete and carpentry Work (SPW) teams to drive business growth, profitability, and operational effectiveness. This role is responsible for the overall strategic direction, P&L management, and talent development for the SPW business unit.

Scope:

Oversees all aspects of the SPW business unit, including strategy, business development, financial performance, process improvement, technology and the management of field and support teams.

Working Relationships:

Work directly with project teams, construction leaders, trade organizations, subcontractors, internal accounting, and construction management team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster a collaborative and productive team culture.

  • Strategic Leadership and P&L Management.

  • Develop and execute the strategic vision for SPW business growth.

  • Assess national opportunities for growth in key markets/sectors.

  • Assume full responsibility for the division's P&L, including setting financial goals, managing budgets, and driving profitability.

  • Analyze market trends and competitor activities to identify opportunities for expansion and new service offerings.

  • Implement and hold the team accountable to corporate and divisional goals and initiatives.

  • Business Development & Client Relations.

  • Drive business development for SPW, building relationships with internal and external clients to expand the use of self-performed services.

  • Lead sales and strategy efforts for the SPW division, making effective and convincing presentations.

  • Effectively negotiate business and legal provisions of SPW contracts, ensuring favorable terms and managing risk.

  • Consistently achieve customer satisfaction goals and cultivate "raving fans" of Ryan's SPW capabilities.

  • Oversee equipment purchases/maintenance/coordination.

  • Operations & Team Management.

  • Provide direct leadership and mentorship to the SPW teams, fostering a culture of excellence, safety, and continuous improvement.

  • Develop, implement, and refine tools and processes to enhance operational efficiency, quality, and safety across all SPW projects.

  • Assess and promote professional development for direct reports, ensuring a strong talent pipeline.

  • Assure that team warranty issues are resolved promptly and effectively.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience, knowledge, skills, education and abilities - required or preferred - to be successful:

  • 10+ years of delivering complex, large scale, concrete and carpentry construction projects.

  • Knowledge of local labor unions and their associated agreements; specifically with the Carpenter's, Laborers, Operating Engineers and Concrete Finisher's labor unions.

  • Proven track record of at least 5 years in leading multiple project teams with direct responsibility of up to 10 personnel including project managers, field/project engineers and project coordinators.

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Destini, MS Project, Building Connected). Ability to train team members in the functionality of each software.

  • Deep understanding of concrete and rough and finish carpentry construction methods, scheduling, budgeting, and safety standards, with specific expertise in self-performed work operations and business unit management.

  • Proven ability to lead a business unit and manage a P&L.

  • Effectively prioritizes and balances long-term strategic vision with immediate operational responsibilities.

  • Natural leadership skills to guide and develop a team of managers, estimators, and field leaders.

  • Ability to make effective and convincing formal sales presentations.

  • Delegates appropriate type and amount of work to others in order to leverage personal effectiveness.

  • Ability to listen effectively, value the opinions of others and acknowledge contributions of others.

  • Ability to train, manage and hold staff accountable to get results consistent with corporate goals.

  • Ability to recognize, select and hire top talent at the appropriate time.

  • Resolves issues promptly for a "win-win" solution.

  • Has a regular presence with their project teams within the office and at the jobsite.

  • 4-year degree. Degree in construction management, construction engineering, or related field preferred.

  • Willingness to travel as needed to execute projects.

  • Effectively negotiates the business and legal provisions of construction contracts.

  • Resolves issues promptly for a 'win-win' solution.

Compensation:

The annual base pay is $180,000-$205,000/yearly. The base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission and/or an incentive program.
