About the Role

Aquent is partnering with a global technology leader to support an immediate spike in New Product Introduction (NPI) feature launches. We are seeking a Security Engineer to join the Android Security / Platforms & Devices team. In this role, you will act as a crucial force multiplier, taking on operational security workloads, specifically launch risk assessments-so senior security engineers can focus on deep architecture.

This position focuses on securing a custom, forked version of the Android operating system, addressing patch backporting, OS migration security, and pre-market launch feature reviews.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct routine security risk assessments for upcoming feature launches over the next 3-6 months to ensure user data protection and proper access controls.
  • Execute, interpret, and analyze outputs from security tools, including static analysis (SAST), dynamic analysis (DAST), and fuzzers.
  • Perform targeted security-focused code reviews in Java and Kotlin.
  • Communicate vulnerability findings and actionable remediation steps directly to software development teams.
  • Participate in minor bug fixing and leverage Generative AI tools (e.g., Gemini) to optimize vulnerability analysis and triage.
  • Serve as an active contributor to the specialized security working group, helping unblock launch gates on schedule.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of professional software development experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of dedicated security engineering and risk assessment experience.
  • Hands-on proficiency reading and reviewing code in Java and Kotlin.
  • Core understanding of operating system internals and platform security components (e.g., SE Linux, APK structures).
  • Practical experience running or interpreting results from common security tooling (SAST, DAST, Fuzzers).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to articulate risks to software developers.

Highly Valued / Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience within Google's developer ecosystem (familiarity with internal environments/tools such as Buganizer, Cloudtop, or JetSki) to enable rapid onboarding.
  • Direct experience with Android OS platform security, Android kernel security, or backporting security patches.
  • Background in penetration testing for physical devices or systems (e.g., IoT devices, connected cameras, hardware platforms).
  • Published Android security research, articles, or recognized Google/Android Bug Bounties.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
