Purpose of Position

Design, develop, test and support manufacturing of flight simulators with an emphasis on
cockpit and avionics systems, simulator systems, IO interfaces including serial data
busses. Plans, organizes and coordinates the efforts of lower-level personnel

Tasks and Responsibilities

* Successfully completes assigned tasks of the job; applies and enhances knowledge
and skills while utilizing sound engineering principles.
* Design tasks include cockpit and avionics system design, simulator system design,
circuit card design, and integration and troubleshooting.
* Research and interpret aircraft and avionics manufacturer's data, as well as project
requirements, in preparation for system and interface design.
* Perform operational, functional tests and troubleshooting of electronic circuits,
avionics and aircraft systems components using specialized tools.
* Provide on-site and remote support during simulator test, hardware/software
integration, discrepancy resolution, and simulator certifications.
* Perform within department budget and schedules.
* Exhibit and practice professional and courteous behavior while interacting with both
internal and external customers.
* Accountable for the accuracy and completeness of assigned tasks.
* Able to adhere to a work schedule including prompt and regular attendance.
* Recognized as a technical expert by others.
* Demonstrate initiative and independent thought in developing potential solutions to
problems using available tools and information.
* Perform high level engineering tasks with little supervision.
* Able to give presentations in front of an internal audience, acting as a representative
of the department.
* Identify opportunities to improve processes and products.
* Provides guidance, training, and mentoring to teammates in the department when
required.
* Travel as required.

  • Mentors and assists other software engineers.
  • Apply skills in document preparation to create customer test and internal/external user guides.
  • Apply presentation skills to demonstrate the operation of systems to internal and/or external customers.
  • Consults with other software and hardware engineers as part of a team. Communicates effectively between departments.
  • Designs prototypes for new technologies, algorithms, structures, and processes. Conducts research and development.
  • Supports computer system and hardware requirements, integration, and maintenance.
  • Develop engineering tools
  • Remains current on state-of-the-art technologies through technical papers, periodicals, and conferences.
  • Travel, shift work, and special work hours may be required to accomplish some of the above tasks.

  • Accountable for the control and distribution of documents and/or equipment subject to export control restrictions or other applicable laws and regulations and the security of FSI materials, projects and business information regarding the methods and techniques used in the production and usage of FSI products.
  • Accountable for the accuracy and completeness of assigned tasks.
  • Able to adhere to a work schedule including prompt and regular attendance. Willingness to work overtime as necessary.
  • Adhere to accurate time recording of daily work activity.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • May be required to apply for and maintain a security clearance.
Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or
equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum Experience

7+ years of professional experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • AC and DC Electronics, Digital Logic theory and implementation, Computer System
    theory, Programmable Logic Devices (PLDs), Field Programmable Gate Arrays
    (FPGAs), serial data protocols, Microprocessor/Microcontroller theory and
    implementation, and circuit/system troubleshooting skills.
    * Desired - Microsoft Office, Computer-aided design (CAD) preferably SolidWorks
    Electrical, and Project Lifecycle Management software
    * Knowledge of test equipment including digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic
    analyzers, data bus reader, signal generators, etc.
    * Fluency in English, through both verbal and written communications; Able to read,
    analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, or
    governmental regulations.
    * Able to comprehend and apply principles of calculus, modern algebra, Polar
    coordinates, Boolean algebra, and statistical theory; Able to work with concepts
    such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.
    * Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in
    written, oral, or diagram form; Able to deal with problems involving several concrete
    variables in standardized situations

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
