Senior Construction Manager

ICON Technology

ICON Build is seeking a Senior Construction Manager to lead project execution across ICON's growing project portfolio, which spans mixed-use, institutional, multifamily, and government facility projects. This role owns the full construction delivery lifecycle - from constructability input in design through field completion and turnover. The Senior CM is the primary field leader, responsible for cost, schedule, safety, and quality performance, and is accountable for ensuring ICON's innovative 3D-printed construction systems are integrated efficiently and safely alongside conventional construction methods. This role will be based at our Austin, TX headquarters and will report to the Director of Construction.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pre-Construction & Design Coordination

  • Lead constructability reviews at Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Document milestones; provide documented feedback to design and estimating teams on materials selection, construction methods, sequencing, and site logistics implications.
  • Advise the design team and PM on cost, speed, and safety tradeoffs throughout the design development process.
  • Coordinate with the Estimator to translate design updates into accurate schedule, logistics, and cost implications, ensuring the construction plan remains aligned with the project budget and delivery timeline.

RFP Process Leadership

  • Lead the RFP process taking primary ownership of: bid package development and scope definition, trade prequalification and selection, pre-bid meeting facilitation, addenda and bidder Q&A management, bid leveling, and buyout recommendations to leadership.
  • Define clear, coordinated scopes of work in collaboration with project management, estimating and the design team, ensuring bid packages reflect complete, construction-ready information and minimize post-award ambiguity.
  • Build and maintain a qualified trade network; track trade performance and update vendor qualification records after each project cycle.

Site Logistics Planning

  • Develop detailed site logistics plans for each assigned project covering access routes, laydown areas, utility connections, equipment staging, crane picks, delivery sequencing, and safety zones - with specific provisions for Titan printer mobilization, operation, and demobilization on sites where ICON's 3D-printing technology is deployed.
  • Integrate logistics and phasing directly into the construction master schedule, ensuring sequencing decisions reflect real constraints and are communicated to all trades before mobilization.

Field Execution & Oversight

  • Manage overall field execution across assigned projects, maintaining control of schedule, cost, manpower, and trade performance through active daily and weekly engagement - not passive reporting review.
  • Directly supervise Superintendent(s) and provide clear direction on daily priorities, quality standards, safety requirements, and production expectations; resolve escalations from the field before they impact the project.
  • Lead field QA/QC programs, ensuring inspections, corrective actions, and testing and observation records are completed on schedule and in compliance with the contract, IBC, and applicable local codes.
  • Oversee the safety program for all assigned projects, conducting site safety audits, enforcing OSHA requirements, and maintaining a zero-incident culture with documented toolbox talks and safety meeting records.

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Prepare monthly prime contract pay applications based on verified construction progress; coordinate with the PM and accounts receivable to ensure timely and accurate invoicing.
  • Maintain real-time budget tracking across all assigned projects, producing cost-to-complete forecasts and budget variance reports that reflect actual field conditions - not optimistic assumptions.
  • Manage change orders, field directives, and RFIs with full documentation discipline; ensure all cost and schedule impacts are identified and communicated to the PM before commitment.

Design & Documentation Coordination

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between field operations and the design team; ensure all approved submittals, RFI responses, and drawing revisions are implemented in the field promptly and completely.
  • Maintain complete project documentation including daily reports, progress photos, meeting minutes, inspection records, and as-built notes throughout the construction phase.

CORE COMPETENCIES & SKILLS:

  • Construction execution leadership: proven ability to manage complex, multi-trade projects from mobilization through turnover with full accountability for cost, schedule, safety, and quality outcomes.
  • RFP and procurement acumen: deep familiarity with bid package development, scope writing, trade qualification, bid leveling, and the subcontract execution cycle.
  • Constructability and design coordination: ability to read and critically evaluate construction documents, identify constructability issues early, and provide actionable feedback to design and estimating teams.
  • Field safety and quality leadership: OSHA-trained, quality-control-oriented, with a track record of maintaining incident-free jobsites and disciplined inspection programs on projects.
  • Commercial construction methods expertise: working knowledge of IBC, local permitting and inspection processes, commercial structural systems (Types I-III), MEP coordination, and envelope performance requirements.
  • Financial accountability: proficiency in budget tracking, cost-to-complete forecasting, change management, and pay application processes across concurrent projects.
  • Team and trade management: ability to build high-performing project teams, manage subordinate supervisors, and maintain high standards for trade partner performance without constant escalation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years of field construction management experience, with a minimum of 5 years on commercial or military projects (office, retail, mixed-use, multifamily, institutional, or comparable).
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering large-scale projects on time and within budget.
  • Proven experience leading an RFP/bid process, including scope development, trade qualification, bid leveling, and award recommendation.
  • Strong command of commercial construction methods, IBC and local code requirements, and permitting and inspection processes.
  • Experience directly supervising field personnel (Superintendents, foremen, or comparable roles) and managing multiple concurrent subcontractors.
  • Proficiency in construction management and scheduling software (Procore, Smartsheet, P6, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with contract structures (design-build, lump sum, AIA, CMGC).
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field - or equivalent demonstrated experience in lieu of degree.
  • Ability to travel to project sites across the US, as required; valid driver's license.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • OSHA 30 / EM-385-1 certification
  • Experience with Type I, II, or III commercial construction (structural steel, CIP concrete, or post-tensioned systems).
  • Strong knowledge of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS)
  • Familiarity with innovative construction technologies, including 3D printing, prefabrication, or modular systems.
  • CCM (Certified Construction Manager) or PMP designation.
  • Experience working with state or local government facility clients, or on publicly bid/procured projects.
  • Spanish language proficiency to support communication with trade partners and subcontractors.
