Washington County, located in West Bend, Wisconsin has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Court Assistant within the Clerk of Courts Department. This is a full-time position responsible for overseeing the Probate division pursuant to Wisconsin State Statutes.

Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Chief Deputy Clerk of Courts, and responsible for assisting the Clerk of Courts, the Register in Probate and the Clerk of Juvenile Court in the discharge of the duties of their offices by providing support services for the Circuit Court system.
Duties/Responsibilities: The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
*Greet customers, assess the purpose of the visit, direct to appropriate department, date stamp documents for filing, deputize documents, assist litigants with public access computer, and provide general court assistance as required.

*Process incoming faxes and distribute to judiciary and other staff.

*Analyze account information and accurately receipt payments received by mail and in-person through multiple payment methods, handle cash, and reconcile deposit drawer.

*Maintain records management system by entering assessment and other court data into computer.

*Schedule court hearings, prepares court notices and orders for the court as required.

*Establish and maintain files for court proceedings.

*Clerks court proceedings as required.

*Provides general court assistance as required.

*Prepare letters or documents of general, technical and confidential nature.

*Maintain accurate records and prepare reports, when necessary.

*Perform other duties as assigned, including responding to an emergency event.

*Receive, process and file a variety of court related and other legal documents; dispense information to the general public, other County Departments and attorneys in response to telephone inquiries or personal visits.

Work Direction Received: Works under the routine supervision of Chief Deputy Clerk of Courts.
Decision Making: Decisions are made independently concerning applying payments, processing and distributing documents, and responding to inquiries concerning the court system, scheduling of court hearings, processing and drafting of orders.
Interaction: There is significant interaction with attorneys, law enforcement agencies, state, county, and local agencies, other County employees, judges and the general public.
Essential Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of court practices and procedures, specific needs of court officials, statutes, rules and regulations affecting the office and general office practice and procedures. Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions, draft accurate documents and reports, communicate effectively orally and in writing, and interact effectively with co workers and the general public. Ability to fulfill physical demands of job, sensory demands (seeing and hearing), and cognitive demands (concentration, conceptualization, memorization).
Training and Experience: High School Diploma or GED and four years of previous office experience or two years post high school education and one year experience preferably within a legal setting. A minimum of two years of computer experience with knowledge and experience in Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to keyboard at 50 words per minute.
