Employees in this classification will apply technical, analytical and organizational skills in the installation, maintenance, calibration and repair of clinical equipment and technology to improve patient care and safety. A Biomedical Engineering Technician bridges the gap between technology and medicine by managing, maintaining, and implementing sophisticated medical devices and systems within a healthcare setting, often collaborating directly with medical professionals and patients. Their work includes managing medical equipment inventories, ensuring regulatory compliance, coordinating maintenance, and participating in the selection and procurement of new clinical technology and equipment.

*This position is ON SITE only*

80% Maintenance and repair:

* Schedules and performs preventative maintenance, performance assurance testing, electrical safety inspections, and schedules repairs to correct failed equipment

* Repairs and calibrates equipment and devices to bring them up the original manufacturers' specifications

* Conducts analyses to identify symptoms, definition of problems, option comparisons, appropriate solutions, implementation and evaluation of results

10% Recordkeeping:

* Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of all maintenance and repairs

* Prepare reports by analyzing and collecting data and trends

* Keep track of service parts inventory and seek Supervisor approval for purchasing new materials and inventory

5% In-service education:

* Provide training/education to staff on proper equipment operation and safety

5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties described above.

Credentials to be Verified by Placement Officer

1. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling two (2) years (24 months), from the categories below:
   1. graduation from an accredited biomedical engineering technical school, or equivalent technical/vocational certification/training (including a U.S. military biomedical equipment technology program)
   2. graduation from an accredited electronics technician school
   3. college credit in electrical or electronic engineering or related areas (i.e. physics, chemistry, physiology, biomedical)
      • 30 semester hours equals 6 months
      • 60 semester hours equals 1 year (12 months)
      • 90 semester hours equals 2 years (24 months)

1. Knowledge of the construction, development, repair, and maintenance of electro-medical equipment, such as mini-computers, scintillation counters, electron microscopes, wide band amplifiers, and other electro-medical devices
2. Knowledge of simple electrical/electronic distribution and signal systems
3. Knowledge of medical terminology
4. Verbal and written communication skills
5. Ability to prepare circuit diagrams
6. Ability to make mathematical computations required in electronics
7. Ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions
8. Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs of equipment, to push/pull equipment carts, and to kneel, stand, bend, and reach during equipment repairs
9. Manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination
