Perform operations of heavy equipment as assigned.
Job Description: Essential duties:
- Operate heavy equipment, primarily a track hoe (excavator), as well as dozers, articulated dump trucks, mining trucks, motor graders, and other equipment to support load and haul operations, reclamation activities, pit advancement, trenching, road maintenance, topsoil stripping and replacement, pit floor cleanup, spoil placement and grading, and erosion repair within a sand and gravel quarry.
- Safely perform all assigned duties in accordance with MSHA regulations, company safety standards, and applicable state and federal environmental requirements, while supporting and promoting North American Mining's safety culture.
- Conduct proper equipment startup and shutdown procedures and report maintenance concerns to the supervisor to support effective maintenance planning.
- Operate within acceptable range of all gauges on instrumentation panel.
- Maintain safe operating practices by exercising defensive driving and equipment operation at all times.
- Maintain a valid driver's license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) in good standing.
- Willing to complete cross-training and task training on all site equipment as required.
Other duties:
- Work with other equipment in a safe and organized manner.
- Assist in water management activities, reclamation, load/haul, and maintenance activities, as necessary.
- Perform miscellaneous tasks related to mining operations, including the use of ancillary equipment, with some duties requiring work outside of equipment cabs. Assist maintenance department with routine repairs.
- Keep supervisor informed of any potential problems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to determine depth of cut by feel of the controls, sound, and equipment response, with a basic understanding of heavy equipment mechanics to ensure proper operation within tolerances. May also assist with preventative maintenance and servicing when required.
- Must have the ability to work with GPS units in the equipment.
- Having the knowledge and ability to respond to emergencies and unpredictable situations.
- Identify unsafe or adverse conditions and apply the knowledge and judgment necessary to correct them.
Required Education and Training:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two years' experience operating heavy off-road construction equipment.
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience operating heavy equipment, specifically a track hoe (excavator), is strongly preferred.
- Clean MVR.
- Ability to work primarily days with potential nights and weekends.
