Overview
DePaul Properties leads the movement to ensure residents thrive in safe, healthy, and affordable housing. We do this through advocacy, strategic communication, and mobilization. This position will provide leadership to ensure the DePaul Properties sites operate as a strong and effective organization. District Director for DePaul Properties oversees daily operations of assigned affordable housing projects in the region. DePaul Properties offers rental housing to income eligible tenants and persons with special needs. The District Director (DD) will maintain compliance laws as defined by each governing program related to each site. Why work for DePaul?
Responsibilities
- Understands governing bodies site requirements and will adhere to them, such as.
- Ensures Compliance with Fair Housing and Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Ensures selection of new tenants is in accordance with the Tenant Selection Plan
- HUD/LIHTC guidelines governing all areas including leasing, certification, and recertification processes, waiting lists, transfers, and site maintenance.
- Supervises assigned Property Managers. Ensures DePaul Standards of excellent physical plants are met or exceeded, works with building teams on site specific needs and challenges.
- Assists Regional Operations Director with planning and implementing the opening of new properties in coordination with compliance, support staff and services to ensure turnover, opening, and ongoing operations.
- Schedules and chairs monthly staff meetings and coordinates with other departments to ensure all parties are up to date on protocols and procedures.
- Assists each site with preparing for any and all state and investor surveys and site visits. Monitors sites compliance with regulatory systems.
- Works with community stakeholders to build community-based housing that partners with area stakeholders to benefit.
- Maintain and ensure compliance with the organizational financial controls and with all federal, state, city and investor regulations. Prepare reports for investors as needed.
- Works closely, effectively, and pro-actively with all DePaul departments.
- Participate in the ongoing development and evaluation of policies and procedures.
- Enforces DePaul Properties policies and procedures.
- Performs any other duties necessary for the effective operation of the program
Qualifications
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- Three (3) years' experience in management of not for profit, with work experience in housing mandatory. Section 8 / Affordable Housing Tax experience expected
- Three (3) or more years' experience in multi-family property management, including direct supervision of others.
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to perform in a busy, changing, multi-tasking work environment. Strong attention to detail.
- Requires ability to travel to multiple sites across the state, work with diverse staff team, manage physical plants, monitoring compliance with fair housing law as well as all state, federal, investor and internal regulations and policies.
- Requires ability to read, speak and comprehend English language. Requires ability to use American Sign Language or willingness to learn it.
- Requires a clean, valid NYS driver's license, an insured vehicle, and the ability to travel (on call, emergencies, trainings, etc., as needed).
- Ability to sit, stand, and use a computer for extended periods. Must be able to lift to 20 lbs., communicate effectively, and perform basic office tasks such as typing, filing, and operating standard office equipment.
