THE POSITION

The Special Investigator 2 role with the Department of State offers a chance to make a real impact by protecting the public and upholding important laws. This position gives you the opportunity to work on meaningful cases that support fairness and accountability. You will join a team that values careful work and strong decision making. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on conducting routine and complex investigations into violations of laws, rules, and regulations within the jurisdiction of the Department of State with a primary focus on investigations of violations of the Charitable Purposes Act. The work supports the mission of the Bureau by gathering facts, preparing reports, and ensuring proper investigative procedures are followed. As a Special Investigator 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Investigative Work: Review complaints, gather evidence, and document findings through clear written reports
  • Field Activities: Travel to various sites to observe conditions, interview individuals, and inspect for compliance
  • Case Leadership: Guide sensitive investigations and support less experienced investigators when needed
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with supervisors and colleagues to plan work, share information, and maintain confidentiality
  • Professional Engagement: Attend training sessions, provide guidance to staff, and present testimony at hearings

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time after successful completion of the probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of professional experience in criminal, civil, or administrative investigation work, and a bachelor's degree; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must possess a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
