Job Title: Accounting Analyst
Location: Springfield, IL Reports To: Corporate Controller Department: Accounting Industry: Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC)
Position Summary:
The Accounting Analyst plays a key role in supporting the Company's financial operations, by ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with applicable regulations, and providing meaningful financial analysis to support business decision-making. This position partners closely with the Corporate Controller and other stakeholders across the organization and is responsible for a broad range of accounting, compliance, and analytical activities. This role offers exposure to leadership, external auditors, and cross functional teams, and provides a strong foundation for growth into senior accounting leadership roles.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Preparation of period-end financial statement packages, including supporting schedules and analytical review. Prepare selected period-end close journal entries. Analyze operating expenses and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities. Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis processes. Support ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as assigned.
Audit & Compliance
Coordinate and support external financial audits by preparing requested documentation and liaising with external auditors. Partner with the Corporate Controller to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable regulations. Assistance with internal control documentation and continuous improvement efforts. Support the preparation, analysis, and timely filing of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) annual reports. Assist with FAR audits and communicate with external auditors as needed. Prepare and file required reports with applicable state agencies.
Payroll & Benefit-Related Accounting
Prepare pay rate analysis to support project reporting and compliance requirements. Perform periodic audits of payroll withholdings and payroll-related accounts to ensure accuracy. Prepare recurring 401(k) reports and supporting schedules for plan administrators. Prepare documentation required for annual 401(k) and Employee Stock Ownership Trust (ESOT) reporting and audits. Assistance with annual benefit plan audits.
Income Tax & Other Accounting Support
Administer income tax payments with multiple federal and state agencies. Reconcile tax payments to general ledger accounts. Support process improvement, automation initiatives, and other accounting projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education & Certification:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required) CPA or CMA designation (preferred)
Experience:
3-5 years of progressive accounting experience Experience working with external auditors (preferred) Experience in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry or familiarity with AEC accounting practices (preferred). Familiarity with major ERP systems, such as Microsoft Dynamics (preferred), Oracle or SAP.
Technical & Professional Skills:
Strong knowledge of GAAP, including revenue recognition under ASC 606. Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to translate data into actional insights. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with financial reporting and visualization tools (e.g. Power BI), (preferred). Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven, face-paced environment.

The starting salary range for this position is $70,000 to $85,000 per year.
