About the Opportunity
The Tower & Maintenance Technician ensures the transmission of PBS NC broadcast signals, the integrity of broadcast equipment as related to the position and the overall condition of the 50 service sites. This position provides building and tower construction, remodeling, and maintenance of PBS NC's Transmission sites. This includes inspections and necessary maintenance on the tower structures, buildings, access roads, and grounds. The operation of equipment and climbing towers up to 2000 feet to perform job functions is a required skill of this position.

UNC System employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

About the Team
PBS North Carolina's Technology Division is responsible for
the operations and maintenance of the statewide broadcast network in addition
to studio production infrastructure, information technology, and facilities.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Required Competencies
Ability to operate equipment and climb towers up to 2000 feet in height;
North Carolina Driver's License

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills
Industrial maintenance experience.
Tower experience

Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Ability to operate heavy equipment and climb towers up to 2000
Position is statewide with primary area of responsibility in the
western half of North Carolina.
Hours worked: 7am - 530pm, M-Th, Weekly overnight travel is
routinely required.
Work Schedule M- Th. Some after hours and weekend work
required.
Position drives approx. 800 miles per week
