Research Tech II - Sulman Lab Department of Radiation Oncology

Responsible for performing advanced lab duties, including but not limited to molecular biology, protein chemistry and in vivo animal procedures under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision. Assist post-doctoral fellows and research scientists in all advanced procedures providing moderate to advanced range of coordination of research studies conducted at the medical center. Ensures the accurate execution of research protocols. Assist in the initiation and management of research studies. Works under general direction of lab manager.

Minimum Requirements:

Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field, or the foreign equivalent.

Position Description:

1. Demonstrates knowledge of the organization's Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.

2. Lab Duties - Basic lab duties, under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision. These include but are not limited to cloning, generation of lentiviruses, western blotting, using the tumor treating field in vitro and in vivo systems, enzyme assays, labeling and extraction of cells for metabolomics, animal surgeries, imaging, and irradiation. Assists senior and supervisory technicians in all advanced procedures. May be expected to coordinate the repair and preventive maintenance of lab equipment and conduct ordering and maintenance of lab supplies. Additionally, is expected to assist in experiments using established protocols and procedures, and records results of experiments and provides other information in timely manner, as necessary.

3. Assist in Developing Procedures - Assists in implementing new procedures and protocols to support experiments. Participates actively in developing, recommending and implementing new approved procedures, or modifications to existing protocols and procedures. Maintains and updates technical knowledge.

4. Communication/Relationship with Others - Cooperates, communicates and relates well to all levels of Medical Center. Listens carefully to others to respond appropriately,

answer questions or obtain needed information. Communicates ideas, problems, suggestions, and messages in a timely and effective manner. Maintains the confidentiality of all research information.

5. Judgment/Decision-Making - Can recognize problems as they occur; and through the application of appropriate policy/ procedure, determine and/or recommends the appropriate solution. Seeks guidance as necessary for the performance of duties asks appropriate questions when in doubt and utilizes reference sources/materials to endure accuracy. Advises appropriate personnel of situations/problems requiring intervention or follow-up attention.

6. Participates and performs other related duties as required with a minimum two-year commitment required

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $19.06 to USD $28.85. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
