Summary
Spire is seeking a Safety Specialist I. This position will be responsible for field safety support and will play a support role in safety program development, implementation and administration. Furthermore, this position will foster and promote an environment that challenges and enables the Company to achieve continuous improvement in the field of employee safety and health.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Assist with the implementation and maintenance of Safety & Health programs. * Assist with the development of an annual calendar for monthly safety meeting communications and weekly inSpire safety topics. * Review policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory bodies and other Spire documents. Research new safety policies and work with peers to maintain standard policies and procedures. * Perform field safety observations of field processes and appropriate follow up processes. * Basic understanding of Origami software for field observation forms, incident and accident tracking and other safety functions. Ability to navigate to pull and share reports. * Consult with employees in the field on OSHA regulations to ensure employees understanding of safety best practices and regulations. * Encourage socialization of Safety Committee Procedure and of communication between committees, management and the Safety department. * Assist with safety incident investigation and documentation. * Assist with new employee training and other applicable regulatory training. * Assist in analyzing data to identify hazardous trends and work with other safety members to mitigate them. * Assist in the development and implementation of engineering and administrative controls to eliminate or control hazards. * Assist with periodic audits of hazard controls and PPE hazard assessment. * Respond to safety incidents in a timely manner and document facts in detail. * Occasionally be on call to respond to after-hours emergencies. * Create and maintain POs for payment to vendors. * All other duties as assigned.

- Professional knowledge of OHSA regulations and applicable consensus and national standards for personnel safety preferred.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to adapt in a fast-moving and changing culture.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to build and establish rapport with a diverse array of people.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in order to meet individual goals and deadlines.
- Strong technical writing skills.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Required Education (certifications, licenses)
Associate's degree (or equivalent credit hours) with one year of related experience
OR a bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Safety, Safety Management, Engineering, or a related science.
Required knowledge, skill and abilities
* One year professional experience preferred * Regulatory compliance experience or background required * Basic knowledge of safety regulations required * General utility knowledge preferred
Physical demands, environment and schedule
- Shared office environment and field (Ongoing exposure to the elements andrough off-road terrain may occur.)
- Typically, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday
- Scheduled, periodic on-call duties for incident evaluation and response, as rotated through the department
- Overtime and/or travel will occasionally be required.
