Job Summary:

Tests, inspects, and monitors Quality System procedures and processes to ensure proper compliance. Provide an internal review to evaluate product that is nonconforming to specifications and determine the appropriate disposition (e.g. acceptable as is, rework, deviation required, scrap, etc.) as appropriate, or recommend disposition to higher authority. Evaluate statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the essential functions, physical demands, or work environment.

Conduct quality system audits; review procedures/instructions and conduct floor audits to compare to actual plant performance to ensure compliance. Report noncompliance to the appropriate authority.

Check nonconforming and suspect parts to engineering drawings and process routings and provide initial review and disposition. Prepare deviation requests as appropriate, including entering data/information into the computerized deviation system. Perform quality complaint investigations, including warehouse investigations and quality alert checks. Communicate with JEF Engineering on these issues.

Participate as a member on Corrective Action Teams to investigate the root cause of receipt of nonconforming product by the Customer. Help establish appropriate corrective action(s) to prevent reoccurrence and verify the successful implementation of the corrective action(s).

Recommend modifications of existing quality or production standards, procedures, and instructions to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability. Provide suggestions to improve the total process.

Assist in job quality training of employees and quality auditors.

Serve as an internal quality lead auditor, providing training on quality standards to other internal auditors and to all employees.

Conduct PPAP (Product Part Approval Process) inspections on purchased parts, new products, and on select products for tests and test products for variety of qualities such as dimension, gauge, material type, etc. Records data and provides analysis as required.

Calibrate gauges, test equipment and measuring devices as assigned.

Enter quality related data into the computer for analysis and prepare graphs and charts of data. Analyze data and prepare summary reports including highlighting significant observations and conclusions and make appropriate recommendations to address issues.

Monitors OE final check fixtures and certifies to Master part before each use.

Prepares and packs OE samples for customer approval (PPAP's), including all appropriate documentation.

Performs capability studies on the floor. Analyze data and recommend appropriate follow up action. Performs long term trend analysis.

Provides recommendations of salvage and rework methods for nonconforming product.

Performs PPAP's for in-house finished product as well as purchased product and records data as required.

Conducts warehouse part investigation to investigate reported quality issues. Reviews product for nonconformance and recommends disposition. Communicates results of investigation to appropriate parties and takes necessary steps to complete disposition.

Provides training and instruction, both one-on-one and classroom, on how to use gauges.

Uses gage calibration tracking software to determine that status of gages or fixtures.

Complete annual updates of OSHA required training as assigned by supervisor.

Reports any safety malfunctions, near hits, and/or injuries to supervisor/engineer immediately.

Serves as a back-up to the Quality Supervisor or Engineer.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education/ Experience/ Skills:

Must work effectively with minimal supervision. Must be detail oriented. Must possess a working knowledge of machine processes, floor audit procedures, and quality requirements.

Minimum 5-7 years manufacturing and quality experience within the organization required. Must have demonstrated solid corrective action and troubleshooting skills in assisting manufacturing in correction of quality and productivity issues. Assists manufacturing by making recommendations to process changes, set up improvements, material changes, etc. that result in improved quality and productivity, and reduced scrap. Must have distinct and thorough manufacturing knowledge across all manufacturing areas.

Green belt certified upon request.

Must have comprehensive blueprint reading skills in all product categories - pipe, muffler, converter, rod hangers, etc.

Computer skills required - word processing and spreadsheet applications, Approach/Access database, Outlook, Microsoft, EWM, SAP

Must be able to operate powered equipment in distribution center.

Requires extended knowledge of Automotive Industry Quality Requirements: relationship between Tier 1, 2, and 3 documentations; understand when to use different document structures such as SPPIs or station control plans; broad knowledge across the plant to be able to spot proper administration on the plant floor.

Ability to convey the meaning of formulas used to statistically define the performance of gauge use and process capability

Able to certify various types of fixtures. Must have a good knowledge of different types of fixtures and their application.

Must be able to use various gauges in facility such as micrometers, pi tapes, measuring tape, mylar stands, hole micrometers, angleometer, protractor, etc. Able to certify/calibrate various types of gauges.

Able to look up prints in master file and all floor files. Make copies of prints as needed. Must be able to locate prints using CAD software to pull down prints electronically from JEF and plot them. Know how to look up ECO's in JEF computer system.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as, but not limited to, blueprints, ECOs (Engineering Change Orders) and equipment technical manuals. Also, must be able to read and understand safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence utilizing correct English grammar. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization at all levels.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Able to perform or learn statistics for Statistical Control purposes.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to apply logical thinking and analytical reasoning to problem solving.

Physical Demand & Work Environment:



  • Often required to sit and use hands and fingers to handle or feel
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Vision ability required include close vision
  • Exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
