Introduction

The Department of Extension Services is seeking a Marketing Coordinator. This is a full-time position funded by the Loudoun County Government. Extension Services is a combined state and county office located in Leesburg, Virginia. The Department of Extension Services helps the people of Loudoun County improve their lives through evidence-based educational programs, training and services developed with input from local stakeholders.

These programs are often conducted in partnership with Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) and focus on:

  • Community Well-Being
  • Increasing the Sustainability of Agricultural Operations
  • Fostering Youth Development by Teaching Life Skills
  • Promoting Natural Resources Conservation and Stewardship
  • Improving Our Food System


Job Summary

This position will focus on all aspects of marketing and communication for the department. This position will provide support to the department's faculty and internal operations staff by:

  • Strategically promoting the department's events and announcements to targeted audiences while working in accordance with applicable branding guidance.
  • Producing a monthly newsletter and/or digest of the department's events to communicate events and announcements with community stakeholders.
  • Administering a departmental programming calendar.
  • Developing program announcement flyers and social media collateral. Developing templates and examples to guide the creation of collateral material.
  • Managing social media accounts. Creating and editing social media graphics and reels. Analyzing social media metrics to develop and review social media strategies.
  • Creating and updating content for the department's websites.
  • Drafting and publishing news flashes and press releases to communicate departmental announcements and successes.
  • Ensuring all digital materials are compliant with ADA accessibility standards.
  • Documenting events by taking photographs and recording videos.
  • Ensuring soil testing kits and/or print collateral are available to the public.
  • Representing the department at in-person events across Loudoun County.
  • Designing promotional products. Working with the Administrative Manager to purchase promotional products.
  • Coordinating with Loudoun County departments to promote cross-departmental programs and provide services.
  • Assisting colleagues with planning and facilitating programs. Creating program materials, e.g.: flyers, programs, nametags, attendance sheets, banners, & certificates.
  • Collecting data for program impact analysis and reports; evaluating programs; assisting with award submissions.
Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field; one (1) year of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of principles and practices related to marketing strategies and customer service.
  • Skilled in communicating clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others in the workplace.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize your own work schedule to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with a high level of autonomy in a non-structured environment.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems.
  • Ability to compile, organize, and post data from records, reports, and other sources using the appropriate format.
  • Knowledge of use and operation of automated systems; databases, and software for the departments.
