Job Description
The Station Attendant plays a vital role in the food manufacturing process by assembling, portioning, and packaging meal components in a fast-paced production environment. This position ensures strict adherence to food safety, hygiene, and quality standards while supporting either retail or airline meal service operations. Station Attendants may be assigned to AM or PM shifts, each with specific operational responsibilities.
Essential Functions
- Follow all unit-specific entry procedures, including wearing appropriate attire and maintaining hygiene per hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP) guidelines and company policies including safety and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Observe all security precautions and food safety regulations as mandated by unit and management protocols.
- Read and follow instructional charts or diagrams to determine types and quantities of foods and supplies to be packaged or assembled into trays or containers per airline specification.
- Remove cold food items (e.g., salads, desserts, rolls, dairy products) from storage and position them at the appropriate tray assembly station to support efficient production flow.
- Assemble, portion, and garnish hot or cold meals into individual serving dishes according to portion control and recipe standards.
- Inspect food for contamination, proper appearance, and compliance with quality standards.
- Operate knives and slicing machinery safely to cut fruits, vegetables, or meats into specified sizes and weights.
- Store completed trays in airline carts or designated containers for transportation.
- Return unused food items or supplies to storage with proper labeling, rotation, and adherence to dating protocols, or dispose of per company procedures.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary workstation and comply with all sanitation and hygiene standards.
- Ensure that gold standards are followed.
Retail & Airline Operational Functions
- Airline-Specific Tasks:
- Assemble and organize meal trays for flight service following airline-specific menus and layouts.
- Ensure trays are accurately labeled and loaded into airline carts based on flight specifications.
- Adhere to strict time schedules aligned with flight departure timelines.
- Follow special handling instructions for dietary, international, or premium-class meals.
- Retail-Specific Tasks:
- Assemble packaged food items such as grab-and-go meals, snacks, and retail-ready products for store delivery. o Apply appropriate barcodes, labels, and nutritional information based on customer or regulatory requirements.
- Maintain quality and presentation standards specific to retail environments (e.g., product placement, sealing, appearance).
- Assist in preparing and labeling large batch items for distribution across multiple retail locations.
Shift-Specific Focus:
- AM Shift: Focuses on production preparation, workstation setup, and initiating daily food assembly operations. Tasks may include prepping ingredients and coordinating with cooking teams.
- PM Shift: Emphasizes end-of-day tasks, including finalizing production, cleaning workstations, returning or discarding food items per storage procedures, and restocking supplies for the next shift.
Skills & Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience in food handling, food service, or food manufacturing preferred
- Knowledge of HACCP and food safety regulations
- Ability to read and interpret production charts, diagrams, and recipes
- Proficient in using kitchen tools, including knives and slicing equipment, safely
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions and work as part of a team
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This position is located in a food manufacturing facility and involves working in areas that may be cold, hot, humid, or noisy. The environment includes exposure to strong food odors, allergens, and moving equipment. Employees must follow strict sanitation and safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Work may take place on wet or slippery surfaces. Schedules may include overtime, weekends, or holidays based on operational needs.
Physical Demands
The physical requirements for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Standing/Walking: Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods (8-12 hours per shift), often on concrete or other hard surfaces.
- Lifting/Carrying: Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 25 lbs. (occasionally more with assistance or equipment).
- Repetitive Motions: Use of hands and arms for repetitive tasks such as packing, sorting, or operating machinery.
- Reaching/Bending: Frequent reaching overhead, bending, stooping, and crouching throughout the shift.
- Manual Dexterity: Use of fine motor skills for tasks requiring precision and coordination, such as operating controls or using small tools.
- Climbing: Occasionally climb ladders or stairs to access equipment or elevated workstations.
- Visual Requirements: Ability to visually inspect products, labels, or equipment for quality and safety standards.
- Auditory Requirements: Ability to hear alarms, machine sounds, and verbal communication in a noisy environment.
- PPE Use: Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (e.g., gloves, hairnets, earplugs, safety glasses, steel-toe boots) for the duration of the shift.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Standard hours and days of work may vary based on production schedules and operational needs, including flight schedules. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required, as well as occasional overtime.
