Job Description
Senior Associate Devops Engineer

As a Senior Associate Devops Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the performance, security, and availability of enterprise databases. You will work closely with development, infrastructure, and security teams to optimize database operations and support business-critical applications.

Your Impact
  • Onsite work required at least 3 days per week
  • Additional onsite presence may be required based on operational needs
  • Support and operate a largescale highperformance computing (HPC) environment supporting over 800 NIH faculty and research teams
  • Ensure the physical health, network connectivity, and inventory management of 2,800+ Linux servers powering the Biowulf supercomputing platform
  • Monitor large numbers of Linux systems running user compute jobs and supporting core HPC infrastructure
  • Collect, log, and analyze operational data across thousands of nodes and hundreds of thousands to millions of user jobs
  • Track and proactively identify disk utilization bottlenecks across 60+ petabytes of data
  • Monitor and analyze network traffic performance to maintain high bandwidth and low latency
  • Build, debug, and enhance commandline and webbased tools for displaying metrics, events, and trend predictions
  • Work independently and collaboratively in a fastpaced, highly technical environment
  • Translate broad technical direction into concrete, actionable solutions
Set Yourself Apart With
  • Very strong experience with Linux operating systems (Red Hat-based distributions)
  • Experience with software development and deployment tools such as Git and Ansible
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages, including:
    • Python
    • Rust
    • Go
    • Perl
  • C / C++
  • Distributed file systems (e.g., VAST, GPFS, NetApp)
  • Analytics and visualization tools (e.g., Kibana, Grafana)
  • Experience preparing and presenting technical reports
Skills & Experience
  • Strong handson experience with Linux operating systems, specifically Red Hat-based distributions
  • Experience monitoring and operating largescale Linux environments supporting production workloads
  • Proficiency with software development and deployment tools such as Git and Ansible
  • Working experience with one or more programming languages, including Python, Rust, Go, Perl, or C/C++
  • Ability to collect, log, and analyze system and joblevel data across large numbers of servers
  • Experience troubleshooting system performance, disk utilization, and network connectivity issues
  • Ability to translate broad technical direction into concrete, actionable solutions
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary technical team
