Job Title: Northern Regional Coaching Director

Overview:

The Northern Regional Coaching Director is a key partner and administrator of the Corporate Management Team and is accountable for focusing on the nursing leadership team members' growth and development within assigned facilities, with the overall goal to develop leadership competence and retain valued nurse leaders.

This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned leader with a track record for successfully mentoring others, and who can confidently influence, communicate, and connect with people of diverse cultures, backgrounds and levels.

The Regional Coaching Director will work in collaboration with each assigned facility's Senior Management Team to achieve key metrics by fostering leadership development and growth, through teaching and role modeling a prescribed coaching framework and methodology.

This role will ensure initiatives and behaviors outlined in the System-wide Patient Satisfaction Prescriptive Plan and the Safety Together (High Reliability Organization) toolkit are executed, validated and maintained consistently by nursing leaders throughout the assigned facilities.

As a partner in the organizational goal to support staff in their development and personal growth, the Regional Coaching Director will have the opportunity to work with individual leaders and teams, from Chief Nursing Officers through front-line patient care staff members.

The Regional Coaching Director will offer guidance and consultation related to self-awareness, enhancement of individual communication skills and confidence, and teamwork, thereby positively contributing to employee engagement, patient experience, productivity, promotability/succession planning and overall enhanced team performance.

The Regional Coaching Director will:

  • Ensure facility understanding of the system-wide Patient Satisfaction Prescriptive Plan and implementation of evidenced-based strategies and tactics, by setting clear expectations of desired results and system goals.
  • Assess, identify and prioritize individual and group needs via observations, consultations/discussions, review of prior performance appraisals and other assessment tools as needed.
  • Meet consistently with individuals for one-to-one focused coaching/consultative sessions
  • Facilitate group/team sessions on a consistent basis, and provide ad-hoc and informal guidance and support, delineating clearly the difference between coaching and counseling.
  • Develop Coaching Agreements with each individual or team, establishing the guidelines and professional standards/expectations, clarifying the roles of all parties (coach, coachee, and manager/sponsor), and the duration
  • Establish and/or support individual or team goals based on the System strategic plan via Action Plans, for which the individual or team is held accountable with SMART goals.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Leaders to optimize the coaching role for the organizational needs, deploying coaching assistance as needed
  • Work in close consultation with the senior management teams of assigned facilities to assess management team members and/or department head performance.
  • Establish consistent processes to reward and recognize high performers, coach and mentor middle performers and make recommendations for low or resistant performers.
  • Conduct leadership/coaching rounds on a regular basis to include, but not limited to, observation of the morning huddle, bedside shift report, hourly rounding and leadership rounds.
  • Provide at the moment coaching opportunities on communication effectiveness and staff engagement.
  • Enhance a reward and recognition culture to ensure on-the spot recognition and identification of opportunities for staff mentoring and coaching
  • Facilitate skills labs and SIM labs to provide participants with a safe environment to role-play key coaching skills
  • Design, develop and facilitate educational sessions and in-service sessions (as agreed upon with facility leadership) with a focus on relevant leadership skills, employee/patient engagement, resilience, succession planning and retention.
  • Provide crisis-sensitive personal coaching for leaders and select staff (as agreed upon with facility leadership), and encourage the use of existing organizational resources (ie EAP, BHealthy, HRO toolkit) to ensure optimal performance and self-care action plans.
  • Identify and provide supplemental resources to continue in-depth coaching as needed
  • Support the education of nurses and emerging nurse leaders at all levels through participation in corporate and facility-based education programs and seminars as needed.

Candidate Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to improving organizational needs through coaching skills and building partnerships for performance effectiveness.

The candidate should also possess the following:
