Job Summary The Data Center Operations Technician supports 24/7 data center operations, infrastructure, and Smart Hands services in a high-availability environment. This role combines monitoring, ticket management, documentation, and hands-on technical work to support customer hardware and connectivity needs. Responsibilities include installing, racking, stacking, and cabling equipment; troubleshooting and replacing server, storage, and network components; coordinating with internal teams and carriers; and resolving service requests efficiently while maintaining safety, uptime, and operational standards. The ideal candidate has strong problem-solving skills, solid technical knowledge, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, service-driven environment. Job Responsibilities * Perform rack and stack installation of servers, storage, routers, switches, and related data center hardware * Install, route, label, and organize copper and fiber cabling in accordance with data center standards * Provide break/fix support for servers, switches, routers, and other infrastructure components * Troubleshoot and replace hardware components such as drives, DIMMs, and power supplies * Execute cable decommissioning and removal of inactive or retired equipment * Deliver Smart Hands support, including hardware swaps, power checks, cabling verification, and remote team assistance * Review, prioritize, and resolve tickets in accordance with service level expectations and change control procedures * Monitor systems and respond to customer, vendor, security, and operational tickets * Coordinate with internal technical teams, vendors, and telecom carriers to support installation, troubleshooting, and incident response activities * Install and support patch panels, PDUs, and cross-connects * Maintain accurate documentation, asset records, logs, and service reports * Communicate professionally through tickets, email, and call bridges with internal and external stakeholders * Support incident response, critical event management, and call bridge participation as needed * Assist with security coordination, infrastructure oversight, and network operations support * Prepare hardware for deployment by unboxing, inventorying, and staging equipment * Close completed tickets and ensure work areas, documentation, and task status are ready for the next shift * Perform other duties as assigned Job Requirements * High school diploma or GED required * Additional IT or data center certifications preferred * 3-5 years of experience in a data center or similar high-availability technical environment preferred * Hands-on experience with racking, stacking, cabling, commissioning, decommissioning, and asset management of data center hardware * Strong understanding of data center operations, critical environments, and operational standards * Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues involving servers, storage, routers, and switches * Experience replacing hardware components, including drives, memory, power supplies, and related parts * Knowledge of CAT5e, CAT6, single-mode fiber, and multi-mode fiber installation and troubleshooting * Familiarity with patch panels, PDUs, cross-connects, cable management standards, and structured cabling practices * Ability to use copper and fiber cable testing equipment * Experience working in ticketing systems and following change control processes * Knowledge of networking fundamentals, console connectivity, and remote access tools such as SSH or Telnet clients * Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, web browsers, and standard desktop tools * Experience with enterprise ticketing platforms such as ServiceNow, Jira, or similar systems preferred * Familiarity with Active Directory and Microsoft 365 preferred * Strong written and verbal communication skills * Ability to work in a 24/7 environment, including rotating shifts, on-call schedules, and SLA-driven operations * Experience supporting incident response, critical events, and collaborative troubleshooting efforts preferred * Ability to work effectively in secure environments with strict access controls and compliance requirements * Basic hand tool proficiency required * Use of appropriate personal protective equipment as required for the work environment Work Experience * Experience working in an enterprise-level data center or similarly complex technical environment * Background supporting ticket-based workflows and service delivery expectations * Experience coordinating with internal technical teams, vendors, and telecom carriers * Exposure to hardware lifecycle support, including installation, maintenance, decommissioning, and documentation * Experience working with ladders, lifts, server lifts, pallet jacks, and material handling equipment in support of infrastructure tasks Benefits * Health insurance * Dental insurance * Vision insurance * 401(k) Additional Job Details (Commute, Attendance, etc.) * Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds * Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods during shifts * Must be able to work on ladders, scissor lifts, and in confined spaces * Must be available for varied shifts, rotating schedules, and on-call support in a 24/7 operational environment
