Mechanical Technician II (Welder)

The ideal candidate will have:

• High school diploma or GED;
• Minimum of four (4) years of power plant mechanical maintenance experience, OR seven (7) years of industrial multi-craft mechanical maintenance experience;
• Valid Driver's License;

• Certifications and specialized training required and must be maintained thereafter;

• ASM standards Certified Pipe Welder (Preferred to already be certified: Test will be administered during selection process);

• Completion of required General Physics (GPI) learnings and JPMs through Mechanical Technician III progression level (or equivalent skills & training if external candidate);

Salary Range: Starting at $39.098 per hour (Estimated $81,323.84 annually) with a structured step progression system and performance-based pay increases every 6 months up to $45.191 per hour (Estimated $93,997.28 annually)

Job Purpose:

Responsible for the troubleshooting and preventative maintenance of OUC's power plant systems and equipment. The Tech II classification is expected to hone and develop the mastery of their specialization, focusing on a specific area of the Power Plant while becoming more familiar over time with other areas. They are expected to be able to work independently on simple to moderate maintenance tasks. Systems and equipment include but are not limited to: pumps, compressors, turbines, piping, valves, crushers, boilers, etc.

Primary Functions:

• Troubleshoot power plant equipment and mechanical systems, including problem identification, evaluation of alternative solutions, and implementation of corrective action;
• Perform maintenance activities on steam turbines, valves, bearings, turbines, high and low horsepower fans, pumps, air compressors, hydraulic systems, conveyor systems (pneumatic and belt), crushers and all equipment related to a power plant;
• Perform advanced level welding consistent with the skill level expected of an ASME standards Certified Pipe Welder on power plant systems and equipment as part of troubleshooting and planned maintenance; Advanced welding techniques may bet done under supervision of Tech I until demonstrated full proficiency;
• Perform pipe fitting duties to construct logical and effective piping paths;
• Demonstrate proficiency of other craft specialization (Millwright and Machinist) duties within the expectations of the Tech III level (Competent in less complex tasks, developing in moderate/advanced tasks);
• Utilize P&IDs and other documentation displaying the configuration and specification of parts, equipment, and systems to perform maintenance work;
• Mentor and guide lower classification technicians within the welding specialization's duties to help with their learning and development in progression;
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Technical Requirements:

• Working knowledge of all, but not limited to the following:
  • OSHA Safety practices and procedures (i.e. LOTO practices, PPE, vehicle safety policies, fire safety procedures, fall-arrest and confined spaces protocols, etc.);
  • Mechanical maintenance of heavy equipment (power plant, industrial, etc.);
  • Advanced welding to include expected welding types as ASME standards Certified Pipe Welder;
  • Power plant systems, their redundancies, and outage schedules (preferred);
  • Interpretation and editing of relevant documents outlining the layout, configuration, and specifications of various equipment (i.e. blueprints, P&IDs, etc.);
  • Use of equipment to include: Welding equipment (i.e. Torches [Plasma torch, gas cutting torches, etc.]), beveling machine, grinder, Maintenance shop tools, forklift, mobile crane, Aerial lifts, measurement tools, machine shop equipment, etc.;
• Familiarity with all, but not limited to the following:
  • Software and technologies to include: Eclipse [for LOTO procedures], JD Edwards Enterprise One (E1) [for TRs and PM work orders];
  • Basics of electrical theory;
  • Power Plant operations (preferred);
  • Related industry, organizational and departmental regulatory guidelines, best practices, and procedures;
• Millwright skills expected of Tech III level (Competent in less complex tasks, developing in moderate/advanced tasks);
• Machinist skills expected of Tech III level;
• Strong problem solving, time management, and communication skills;
• Ability to:
  • Learn and comply with OUC Safety practices and procedures (i.e. LOTO practices, PPE, Job Hazard Analysis, vehicle safety policies, fire safety procedures, fall-arrest and confined spaces protocols, etc.);
  • Utilize tools and equipment to take precision measurements;
  • Make aithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals, and compute rates, ratios, and percentages;
  • Use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and standard office equipment (telephone, computer, copier, etc.) with basic proficiency.

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum of four (4) years of power plant mechanical maintenance experience, OR seven (7) years of industrial multi-craft mechanical maintenance experience
• Certifications and specialized trainings to be required and to be maintained thereafter:

Working Conditions:

This job requires willingness to work extended hours when required including nights, weekends, and holidays. This job requires working in areas with elevations in excess of 100 feet, confined spaces, excessive noise, chemicals, noxious fumes, vibration, extreme heat (non-weather), insects, and occasionally extreme weather conditions. This job involves risk of electrical shock.

Physical Requirements:

This job includes constant or very frequent standing, walking, sitting, climbing, speaking & hearing (English), typing, and detailed inspection/reading/editing. This job involves frequent lifting up to 40 lbs, and occasional lifting 50+ lbs, bending/stooping, pushing, pulling, and/or digging, reaching over head, and kneeling/crawling. This job requires regular use of company vehicles.
