Part of the Division of Student Affairs, University Housing consists of nearly 2.8 million square feet of facilities and is home to more than 9,000 students. The department employs 220 full-time staff members, 21 graduate assistants and 565 undergraduate student workers. As a self-supporting auxiliary, University Housing operates a $59 million budget derived only from student housing fees and other non-state sources.
In support of its mission to provide comfortable, affordable and secure housing options where the academic success and personal growth of residents are encouraged and supported, University Housing engages staff members in competency-based training and students in curriculum-based engagement focused on community building, interpersonal skills, social awareness and responsibility, and well-being. |

| Position Summary |
The primary function of this position is to support the administrative burden regarding parts, supplies and materials, oversee the training of entry level maintenance staff and perform a variety of building maintenance tasks in and around the residence halls of the assigned facilities zone. This position serves one of five facilities zones housing between 1,000 - 2,000 residents. This position is expected to maintain a working knowledge of the building elements and facility components within the assigned area and support cross-training to accept from and support other personnel of adjacent zones. The position performs duties necessary to uphold communication and customer service with a variety of peers, residents and other departmental stakeholders; performs periodic duties during weekend and holiday shifts to uphold the standards of care for a 24-hour, seven-day a week residential program. Must be available to work specified shift, with occasional additional shifts on Saturday, Sunday, or after hours, as needed. |

- Safely operates and uses various tools associated with the skilled trades worker field, e.g. power and hand tools.
- Carries out work assignments with the expected degree of independence and with limited callbacks for cleanup or additional repairs.
- Effectively communicates and collaborates in a professional and consistent manner with a wide variety of individuals such as building service workers, residence hall staff, students/families and other team members via telephone, in writing, or in person.
- Proven ability to work as a team member.
- Can effectively utilize a variety of computer applications in the completion of assigned tasks, including but not limited to OneSource, the Microsoft Office Suite, UGA email and employee websites.
- Communication and collaboration skills: both verbally and electronically with a wide variety of individuals such as facilities colleagues, residence hall staff, residents and other stakeholders.
- A breadth of knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, low voltage and other systems necessary to oversee system component operations and make accurate decisions on operational status.

Employees in this role may be required to report to work when the University is closed or operating under modified conditions.
- The employee will be contacted by their supervisor (or designee) with instructions on when and where to report and what duties will be necessary. Communication will occur via the employee's primary contact information on file (phone, email, or other agreed-upon method).
- The designation of Essential Personnel Pool will be reviewed annually during the performance evaluation period to ensure alignment with operational needs.
- Participate in departmental "all hands-on deck" events (e.g., move-in, move-out, residence hall emergencies).

Advanced Skilled Trades and Zone Support:
- Provides support to the parts, supplies and materials inventory processes for the facilities zone. Ensures inventory procedures and processes are followed to maintain accurate inventory.
- Provides training support to the Utility Worker within the zone. Ensures this position is exposed and has opportunity to hands-on experience necessary to become a successful skilled trades worker. Supports other training activities in all zones.
- Responds to work order requests in a timely manner. Must use and manipulate a web-based work order system to complete the following:
- Carpentry and metal working consisting of repairs to typical wooden and metal elements within facilities maintenance. Repairs may require the use of typical shop equipment dedicated to wood and metal working: joiners, table and compound miter saws, drill presses, breaks and sheers, hand punches, vises and clamps, pop-riveting, hand-held tools (both powered and nonpowered) and similar. Repair tasks such include, but are not limited to: adjusting doors, frames and windows; minor repair of cabinets and casements; repair to structural elements such as walls, ceilings and floors.
- Trouble shooting for locks and/or door hardware such as mortise/cylindrical repair and installation, chex-it/access control repair and closer installation.
- Assist department and outside technicians to complete building element repairs outside the scope of this position.
- Support other trades and colleagues when needed.
