DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Graduate, Undergraduate and Equity Affairs (GUEA) provides leadership and support for efforts that advance UC equity and inclusion, that promote access to and successful completion of baccalaureate and graduate degrees, and that help to provide an exemplary student academic experience.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Software Student Intern will participate in development and testing activities to enhance UC Online platform. This will entail working with the business stakeholders to understand the requirements, document the requirements as user stories in Jira, perform development and testing to implement the user stories and demonstrate completed functionality to the business as part of Agile sprints. The student intern will have an opportunity to learn Agile software development, Tableau, Jira, and other software tools. This will result in acquiring skills that are appreciated and valued by several organizations in the industry.

This role is 100% remote within CA.

Responsibilities

The role will support UC Online development team in the following way.

20% Understand user requirements and help develop user stories.

50% Design and develop solutions called out by the user stories.

30% Develop and enhance internal web pages.

Required Qualifications

Currently enrolled as a student at the University of California. Strong interpersonal communication skills.

Strong analytical and organizational skills. Have taken a course or training in web development and is proficient with Python, UX design, HTML, CSS and Javascript.

Preferred Qualifications

Working towards a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a similar discipline. Experience with Git, React, AI, and UX wireframing and prototyping, like Figma, is helpful.

Education

High school graduate and/or equivalent experience/training.

The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
