Overview
The College of Engineering at Utah State University seeks applicants for a full-time academic-year, (9-month) Professional Practice Assistant Professor (non-tenure track). The position will be administratively housed in one of the college's departments (Biological Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, School of Computing) based on the candidate's educational and professional background. The successful candidate will work closely with the Associate Dean for Academics Programs.

The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for teaching core engineering classes that are taken by students from multiple majors across the college. These include but are not limited to: statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, numerical methods, and introductory courses in the engineering foundation program. Additional responsibilities will include faculty direction of the Engineering Tutoring Center and the Engineering Math Resource Center. The candidate will also develop and implement initiatives to enhance the math readiness of incoming first-year students.

This position has an anticipated start date in August 2026.

Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Teaching courses in fundamental engineering topics as assigned by the Associate Dean for Academic Programs.
  • Providing faculty oversight of the Engineering Tutoring Center and the Engineering Math Resource Center.
  • Developing and implementing effective methods both inside and outside the classroom to improve the math readiness of engineering students.
  • Supporting initiatives to enhance the retention of students in engineering.
  • Other duties as assigned by the associate dean and/or department head.


Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • B.S. and M.S. in an engineering discipline.
  • Ability to teach core engineering classes like statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, numerical methods, and introductory courses in the engineering foundation program.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work well in a team, especially with undergraduate engineering students.
  • Excellent ability to teach and mentor students individually and in groups.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in an engineering discipline.
  • Prior experience with teaching undergraduate engineering courses.
