Job Summary

The Service Technician is responsible to Inspect and Monitor Exposed Piping for Evidence of Atmospheric Corrosion, leaks, and other repair requirements. The Service Technician builds and maintains strong working relationships with their team and their management team. The Service Technician will help solve problems, make connections, and serve others in this role. They assist team members and their supervisor to improve and/or maintain "superior customer service". Additionally, they work closely with the Field Service department to promote and inspire Extra Mile thinking and performance, companywide. The Service Technician possesses character, professionalism, humility, and morality with a focus on service and support.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  • Perform hot taps on active pipelines and manage shut-down operations
  • Perform line stops for temporary isolations on pressurized pipelines
  • Installation of permanent valves into active pipelines
  • Perform other pipeline taps, lines services, and vault operations
  • Visually and physically examine above-ground facilities for the presence of atmospheric corrosion
  • General "uniform" corrosion - large areas of pipe are rusting or pitting uniformly
  • Localized "non-uniform" corrosion - pipe is rusting or pitting only in one or more specifically defined areas
  • Paint or coating totally absent from entire section or large section of facility and a percentage of pipe diameter of the original wall thickness has eroded
  • manage customer reporting requirements for atmospheric corrosion monitoring projects.
  • Comply with all departmental contractor/employee training programs to meet company customer and regulatory requirements including On the Job ( OJ T) and Operator Qualification training
  • Must maintain any other required OQs and classroom training or certifications
  • Comply with company/customer D OT drug & alcohol and environment/safety programs and requirements
  • Attendance of all departmental safety meetings
  • Other duties assigned by manager

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Strong communication skills
  • Reliable transportation to and from job sites, a valid driver's license, and a safe driving record
  • Ability to operate basic hand tools.
  • Experience working with gas utilities or related field.
  • Experience with Operator Qualification training and certification.

Environmental Job Requirements

  • Environment will be inside and outside conditions in all types of weather and may be exposed to extremes of climate and temperatures, high noise levels and rough terrain.
  • Exposure to heat, cold, fumes, dust, noise, and water.
  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
