A Brief Overview: Financial Counselor navigates patients through the financial assistance process as indicated in the Endeavor Financial Assistance Policy, to ensure cases are financially cleared and secure funding for outstanding accounts. Counselor will ensure patient understanding of revenue cycle expectations and financial liability/responsibility by providing information on Financial Assistance Policy, resources, and cost of services. The counselor will assess their ability to pay for inpatient, outpatient, and ancillary services on future and existing outstanding accounts and find identify appropriate financial assistance options utilizing federal, state, and private resources to settle/resolve accounts. Counselor will work with patient to negotiate payment plans, while collaborating with Medical Group Practices, community health resources, and revenue cycle teams to ensure patient financial transparency. Counselor reflects the mission, vision, and values of Endeavor Health, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. What you will do:
Provide clear and compassionate financial counseling to patients and their families, explaining the hospital's billing processes, insurance coverage, and out-of-pocket expenses. Verify and confirm patient insurance information, eligibility, benefits, and coverage for medical services, including obtaining pre-authorizations when necessary. Generate and provide cost estimates for medical services and procedures, helping patients understand their financial responsibilities. Assist patients in applying for and navigating financial assistance programs, including Medicaid, Medicare, and hospital-specific assistance programs. Investigate and resolve billing inquiries, disputes, and discrepancies on behalf of patients, working closely with billing and insurance departments. Establish and manage payment plans, negotiate settlements, and help patients explore financing options to manage their healthcare expenses. Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of patient interactions, financial arrangements, and assistance applications. Ensure all financial counseling activities comply with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and EMTALA. Collaborate with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and other departments to streamline the financial aspects of patient care.
What you will need:
Bachelor's degree or ten years of applicable experience required. Minimum of 5 years' experience in patient care setting with expert knowledge of billing and insurance. Demonstrated expertise in patient insurance and billing. Computer knowledge to include Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Power Point.
