Job Description:

The Virginia Language & Literacy Screening System (VALLSS) Interventionist - Casual provides targeted literacy intervention to students identified through the Virginia literacy assessment and screening process. The interventionist works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and support staff to improve student outcomes in foundational reading and language skills, ensuring all students receive equitable, data-driven support to meet grade-level expectations. This casual position reports to the School Principal.



Qualifications:


  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Education or related field required; Master's preferred





  • Certificates/Licenses: A Valid Virginia Department of Education Teaching Collegiate or PostGraduate License perferred, with Reading Specialist or English Endorsements preferred




  • Experience:


    • Knowledge of the Virginia Literacy Act and VALLSS assessment framework
    • Experience delivering literacy intervention at the elementary level
    • Strong understanding of structured literacy practices and evidence-based instruction
    • Ability to interpret assessment data and translate it into effective instruction




Key Responsibilities:




  • Provide small-group and/or individualized literacy interventions aligned with VALLSS data and student needs



  • Analyze screening and progress-monitoring data to identify skill deficits and plan targeted instruction



  • Implement research-based literacy interventions focusing on phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension



  • Monitor student progress regularly and adjust instruction based on data



  • Maintain accurate documentation of interventions, progress, and outcomes



  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support tiered instruction and alignment with core curriculum



  • Participate in data meetings, MTSS/RTI discussions, and student support planning



  • Communicate progress and strategies with teachers, administrators, and families as appropriate



  • Support schoolwide literacy initiatives and contribute to a positive, inclusive learning environment



  • Stay current with professional learning related to literacy instruction and intervention best practices

Compensation: Hourly Rate

Clearances:



  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.
  • Public Health Compliance - Must follow safety and health protocols.
