Bruker Nano, one of Bruker's four operating segments, provides customers in academic and governmental institutions, life science, materials, and applied industries with the tools to determine the characteristics of matter and visualize the structure of molecules. Divisions within BNANO include Bruker AXS, Bruker Nano Analytics, Bruker Nano Surfaces and Metrology, Fluorescence Microscopy, and Canopy.

Bruker is looking for an Optical Engineer to design and integrate optical elements of our laser-based Photomask Repair and Cleaning (RMR) systems. The Optical Engineer works closely with the hardware and software teams to develop the overall optical systems architecture and implement this in our next generation products. The responsibilities include design, develop, build and test of robust, modular optical systems for our portfolio. This individual will be involved in all aspects of the product development process from concept to commercialization (e.g.: technology research, proof-of-concept, design, analysis, characterization, optimization and documentation).



Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

This position will work primarily on laser based optical systems or sub-systems, their design, development and integration with the overall product.

Typical responsibilities include:

    Design and development of optical systems based on optic, photonic and laser technologies
  • Specifying, selecting and qualifying optical components
  • Building and testing of prototype optical systems and work closely together with the hardware and software teams to integrate this in the full system prototype
  • Benchmark optical system performance and develop and implement test procedures
  • Productize the optical system design for robustness, ease of use, manufacturability, serviceability and regulatory compliance
  • Generate design and product documentation
  • Provide multi-discipline support to production and service by resolving technical issues related to lasers, optical parts and sub-systems


Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

* Candidates must have a MS degree, or higher, from an accredited program in optics, applied physics, or related field with at least 2yrs of relevant work experience; or a PhD without experience.

* Experience in the specification, design, and evaluation of optical sub-systems utilizing active and passive optical components including lenses, mirrors, lasers, optical detectors and manual/automated methods of adjustment.

* Hands-on experience in aligning optical systems, including infrared based systems.

* The preferred candidate will have experience with ultrafast laser material processing and system design experience including DUV, infrared and other lasers technologies in the context of processing equipment, industrial metrology or similar products.

* System modeling experience with programs such as SolidWorks, Matlab, LabView is desired, as is experience with optical simulation tools such as ZEMAX.

* Knowledge of problem solving methodologies, industry standards and regulations strongly desired. Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic, collaborative environment required. Should be hard working, team oriented, bright, creative, driven to push the boundaries of technology!

At Bruker, the base salary is part of our total compensation. The estimated base salary range for this full-time position is between $86,400 and $153,000 and provides an opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base salary for the role will depend on several job-related factors, including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, the geographic location of the successful candidate, skills, competencies, job-related knowledge, and travel requirements for this position. Full-time employees may also be eligible for a performance-related incentive in addition to a full range of benefits, including 401(k) with company match, an employee stock purchase plan, medical and dental plans, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, employee assistance program and paid time off including vacation, sick time and holidays, and more.
