WOOD Federal Solutions is seeking an experienced Solution Train Engineer (STE) to lead and coordinate large-scale Agile delivery efforts supporting complex, mission-critical systems. This role is ideal for a proven Agile leader who thrives at the intersection of strategy, execution, and team enablement across multiple Agile Release Trains and solution teams.

As a Solution Train Engineer, you will serve as a servant leader and facilitator, ensuring alignment across teams, managing dependencies, driving continuous improvement, and enabling predictable delivery of high-quality solutions. You will work closely with technical leaders, product owners, program leadership, and customer stakeholders to ensure delivery objectives are met in fast-paced, high-visibility environments.

This position requires demonstrated experience operating at scale-coordinating large software development, systems integration, and test efforts while communicating clearly with both technical teams and senior leadership.

Responsibilities

    Lead and facilitate Solution Train execution in alignment with SAFe principles and practices.

  • Serve as a servant leader to Agile teams, Release Train Engineers, Scrum Masters, and Product Owners.

  • Coordinate and manage cross-team dependencies, risks, and impediments across large, complex solution efforts.

  • Plan, facilitate, and support PI Planning, Solution Demos, Inspect & Adapt events, and other SAFe ceremonies.

  • Partner with technical and program leadership to ensure alignment between solution intent, architectural direction, and delivery execution.

  • Monitor progress, identify delivery risks early, and drive issue triage and resolution.

  • Communicate program status, risks, and progress to leadership and external stakeholders, including customer/government representatives.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance team performance, delivery predictability, and quality.

  • Leverage Agile project management tools (e.g., Jira, VersionOne, Rally, IBM ELM) to track execution, metrics, and outcomes.

  • Foster collaboration across diverse technical teams and organizational boundaries.



Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience:

Candidates must meet all of the following qualifications to be considered:

  • Five (5) or more years of experience working with large software development, systems integration, and test efforts.

  • Seven (7) or more years of experience leading teams or projects.

  • Demonstrated experience serving as a Scrum Master.

  • Demonstrated experience as a Release Train Engineer (RTE) or Solution Train Engineer (STE).

  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience applying SAFe in real-world delivery environments.

  • Ability to understand complex technical concepts and communicate them effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Experience working within Agile software development teams, ideally in roles such as Scrum Master, Product Owner, Development Lead, or equivalent.

  • Experience briefing senior leadership and customers on project status, risks, and delivery progress.

  • Experience communicating with and briefing external stakeholders, including customer or government representatives.

  • Experience using Agile project management tools such as Jira, VersionOne, Rally, or IBM ELM.

  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment supporting diverse systems, teams, and stakeholders.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, sense emerging issues quickly, and take appropriate action.

  • Strong attention to detail and a consistent focus on task completion and delivery outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field adn 14 years experience.
  • Experience with:
    • JEE technologies (EJB, JPA, JTA, JAXB, JAXRS, JAXWS)
    • Application servers (Tomcat, WebLogic, JBoss)
    • Spring framework and scripting languages
    • XML/XSD/SOAP/WSDL/XSLT, REST, JSON, YAML
    • Containers: Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, OpenShift
    • JavaScript frameworks: AngularJS, Bootstrap, jQuery
    • Testing & mocking: JUnit, Mockito, Jasmine, Karma, Cucumber, UFT, Selenium, FITNesse
    • Build tools: Maven, CMake, RPM, Jenkins, Nexus
    • Linux development
    • Technologies supporting cryptographic systems (digital signatures, ASN.1, XML canonicalization)
  • Experience with requirements decomposition, tradeoff analysis, secure systems engineering.
  • Experience with Agile practices including Pair Programming, TDD, ATDD, BDD.
  • Experience with Scrum or SAFe; SAFe certification is a plus.
