Mechanical Maintenance

Job Summary

Supervise inspection, repair, installation, modification, and maintenance of plumbing fixtures in heating, water and drainage systems across campus. Lead and direct identification of electrical, plumbing and safety problems applicable to installation and advise on necessary corrective action when necessary. Supervise Plumbers by performing employee-related tasks to include maintaining employee information on attendance, job performance, training and development, and procedures and methods to improve quality of work performed. Work with outside contractors to maintain Statesboro campus domestic water system.

Responsibilities
  • Establish performance and safety standards and procedures for the department
  • Ensure compliance with State laws, codes, safety, and environmental standards
  • Assign workload
  • Supervise plumbers in installation, maintenance
  • Repair of all campus water systems, plumbing fixtures, and related equipment
  • Supervise maintenance and repair of campus sewer, stormwater, and domestic fixture and equipment
  • Manage and approve employee time in OneUsg
  • Record and maintain data for required reports
  • Participate in hiring, orientation, training, and performance evaluation of department employees
  • Develop and/or review training programs to keep employees abreast of the latest technical information


Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
  • Associate Degree or equivalent combination of post-secondary/formal technical training

Other Required Qualifications
  • Basic math and computer skills

Required Experience
  • Ten (10) or more years of plumbing experience
  • Four (4) or more years of supervisory experience


Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience
  • Experience in higher education


Proposed Salary

$24.12 - $30.75 per hour

This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.

ABILITIES
  • Consistently exhibit engaging customer service
  • Ability to support various constituencies served by the University
  • Proven proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office, Google, and/or applications as required for specific position
  • Ability to operate equipment standard to trade, including high pressure drain cleaning machines, rigid K-50 and 500 cable machines
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to read and comprehend blue prints, specifications and standards
  • Ability to understand and apply technical literature
  • Ability to supervise and coach employees

KNOWLEDGE
  • Adhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support University's mission for student success
  • Knowledge of all trade standards and techniques used within plumbing profession
  • Knowledge of "Right to Know Laws" and chemical safety standards

SKILLS

  • Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skills

  • Experience in pipe-cutting, reaming, and threading machines
  • Operate hand, precision and power tools
