The EHS Assistant will work closely with the EHS Specialist to help create and enforce a culture of safety within the organization for all employees. The EHS Assistant is expected to help create/implement programs, policies, and assessments to ensure the company is in compliance with all federal and internal health and safety rules. Review reports and findings to monitor performance and detect trends related to health and safety. A familiarity and understanding of manufacturing processes/equipment and the translation of these processes to identify potential environmental and safety issues and opportunities is required.Help to maintain accident prevention programs such as lockout, machine guarding, fall protection, electrical safety, ergonomics, exposure monitoring, hazard communication, and behavioral based safety programs as needed, to ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies. Help inspect and monitor facilities for compliance with local, Provincial, OHSA and Environmental regulations. Perform workplace audits to detect existing/potential workplace hazards. Conducts environmental audits. Coordinate and follow up on correction activities and schedules to drive continuous EHS performance improvement. Provide recommendations to reduce/eliminate potential workplace hazards and environmental concerns. Track closure of identified recommendations to ensure timely completion. Actively participate in safety endeavor programs including associate safety meetings and other safety related projects. Performs associate audits to determine appropriate use of required PPE. Help to Develop, prepare, and conduct environmental and safety training sessions to ensure compliance and employee understanding. Ensure training records/files are maintained and up-to-date. Able to understand and interpret environmental and safety laws and regulations and implement the requirements into the plant operations and compliance programs. Assists with the Incident Investigation Processes. Make recommendations to decrease/eliminate incident reoccurrence. Define trends associated with incidents/accidents. Collects and coordinates environmental and industrial hygiene sampling as required (i.e. wastewater, noise monitoring). Responsible for personal safety and that of equipment being operated. Works on assigned special projects as directed by the EHS Specialist or HR Manager. Assists with outside agency inspections/audits while under the direction of the EHS Specialist or HR Manager. May perform other tasks as assigned within the scope of the position. Performs all other Duties as assigned. Let's Write the Next 100 Years Together.
