JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

We are seeking undergraduate students with interest in artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) to join the Visualization and Decision Support Division of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. Interns will have the opportunity to work developing cutting-edge AI/ML techniques to solve problems in computer vision and geospatial understanding.

Students selected will serve as contributing members of the research staff at ARL. As part of this position, the candidate may:

  • Research and prototype unique algorithmic solutions in Python for a wide array of problems, with a focus on machine learning and artificial intelligence
  • Support machine learning model development using tools and technologies such as PyTorch, PostgreSQL, Amazon Web Services, Docker, and similar technologies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate machine learning models into existing systems and develop new ones to meet specific project needs
  • Work within an agile development environment with other developers, a scrum master, and product owners to scope, develop, and deliver quality software solutions

Students studying Computer Science, Information Science and Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related fields are encouraged to apply.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience in AI/ML
  • Active security clearance

Successful candidates will work up to 20 hours/week during the fall and spring semesters and 40 hours/week over the summer. This is a paid internship located at either State College, PA or Reston, VA. Relocation and housing are not provided

ARL's purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC).

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
