Job Overview:

An internship at TBI gives qualified college and post-graduate students an inside look at TBI's critical mission and work across the state. While no guarantee of future employment, an internship with TBI offers students from a wide range of backgrounds a broad look at all it takes to fulfill our unique place in the state's criminal justice system.

The TBI Internship opportunity is a 10-week summer program, June 1, 2026 - August 7, 2026.

The TBI Headquarters Summer Internship Program provides college students with unique, hands-on experience working with Special Agents across multiple investigative divisions within our office, including the Criminal Investigation Division (CID), Drug Investigation Division (DID), Medicaid Fraud Control Division (MFCD), and Criminal Justic Information Services (CJIS)

Interns will have a chance to rotate through each division to gain exposure to a wide range of investigative functions.

Responsibilities and learning opportunities may include:

  • Observing investigative operations in both office and field settings
  • Participating in surveillance and investigative support activities
  • Reviewing and organizing case files, reports, and video evidence
  • Assisting with administrative and project-based tasks

This internship offers students the opportunity to learn directly from experienced Special Agents and professional staff while contributing to real-world investigative work that supports law enforcement partners and public safety across Tennessee.

Interns assigned to the Cyber Squad will be exposed to various types of cyber-related criminal investigations, cryptocurrency tracing, the collection and preservation of digital and non-digital evidence, cybercrime research, public awareness, education, intelligence sharing, support, and training. Those assigned to a Cyber Squad Internship will gain an understanding of how the Cyber Squad investigates complex technology facilitated crimes, as well as how the Cyber Squad supports TBI Special Agents and our other federal, state, and local law enforcement partners across Tennessee to investigate, identify, and arrest/deter cyber criminals.

How you make a difference in this role:

Join our dynamic internship program designed to provide hands-on experience across four key divisions within the TBI. This rotational structure offers a comprehensive understanding of law enforcement operations and administrative functions.

Academic Year Preference:

Internships are open to college juniors, seniors, or those pursuing post-graduate education.
