The Opportunity

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking a reliable and customer-focused Postal & Shipping Clerk to support campus mail and shipping operations at the Daytona Beach campus. This position plays a critical role in providing outbound postal services through the University's Contract Postal Unit (CPU), assisting students, faculty, staff, and campus partners with mailing and shipping needs while ensuring compliance with USPS, UPS, and FedEx policies.

The Postal & Shipping Clerk is responsible for delivering excellent customer service at the postal counter, processing outgoing mail and packages, maintaining postal supplies and inventory, supporting daily operational closeouts, and assisting with incoming mail and package distribution. This role also provides backup courier services for campus mail delivery and supports compliance audits conducted by the United States Postal Service.

This position requires attention to detail, physical stamina, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while supporting a fast-paced service environment.

Qualifications

Required Education and Qualifications:

Required Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • One (1) to three (3) years of related experience in shipping, receiving, mail services, customer service, or a related field

Required Licenses & Certifications
  • Valid Florida Driver's License with a clean driving record

  • Required licenses, certificates, and/or security clearances:

  • Relevant certifications in pesticide application and irrigation management preferred.

  • Candidates will be expected to obtain a Limited Lawn and Ornamental Pesticide License (LLO) by the State of Florida within the first 90 days of employment. We are excited to share that Embry-Riddle will cover the cost for the Grounds Supervisor to obtain a Limited Lawn and Ornamental License.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid, US driver's license. In some instances, a valid Class C (CDL) license may be required.

  • Must meet the University's standards for approved drivers. Unacceptable driving records (as stated in the Use of Equipment and Vehicles Procedure 1.17) include the following (for three years from the date of each occurrence):

    • Three (3) or more at-fault accidents and/or moving violations in the previous 36 months.

    • Two (2) or more at-fault accidents or two (2) or more moving violations in the past year.

    • Conviction for driving while impaired (DWl, DUl within the last five (5) years).

    • Conviction for death by vehicle, hit and run, racing, careless and reckless driving, implied consent in the previous five (5) years.

    • Serious violations result in immediate disqualification and revocation of driver privileges. The following are examples of serious violations:

    • Speeding over 15 mph of the posted limit, driving under the Influence of alcohol or drugs, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless or careless driving, Use of vehicle in (drug trafficking, reckless homicide, soliciting), unlawful use of weapons, driving under suspension or revocation, fleeing a police officer, vehicle theft, Improper or illegal lane change, following too close, and passing a stopped school bus while stop sign is engaged.

Required Skills & Abilities
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with students, faculty, staff, and external carriers

  • Ability to accurately process mail and shipping transactions while ensuring compliance with USPS, UPS, and FedEx regulations

  • Basic computer skills and ability to operate postal and shipping systems

  • Ability to manage inventory, complete daily reports, and maintain accurate records

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently with minimal supervision

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing/pulling carts, and working in varying environmental conditions

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, lifting, pushing, and pulling

  • Exposure to mailroom and shipping environments, including dust and packaged materials

  • Ability to operate a vehicle in heavy traffic and inclement weather when serving as a backup courier

  • Schedule may include weekdays and Saturdays based on business needs
