Job Summary

The Assistant Director for the Master of Business & Government Leadership (MBGL) Program at FIU's Adam Smith Center for Academic Freedom (ASC) plays a pivotal role in ensuring the success and wellbeing of enrolled students. This position requires administrative, advisory, strategic planning, supervisory and entrepreneurial skills to create the best possible experiences for all stakeholders. Oversees the implementation of the overall academic and extracurricular programs for the full-time and part-time MBGL
degrees. Works closely with students, faculty, and staff to maintain a first-class academic curriculum and highly rated student experience.

  • Oversees the planning, implementation, and monitoring of all student services for the MBGL program. Manages matriculation, orientation, registration, networking/professional development events, graduation and student activities and extracurricular events throughout the year. Serves as the first point of contact for all student questions and concerns, referring matters as appropriate to the Associate Director and FIU student resources and support services. Oversees content for MBGL social media accounts and creates strategies for maximum social media impact.
  • Remains current on student affairs and student services best practices. Directs and manages student-facing staff. Manages the hiring process for direct reports. Develops, implements and assesses student retention strategies.
  • Provides degree audit reports each term to the Associate Director to monitor each student's progress towards the MBGL degree. Consults immediately with the Associate Director when students fail to maintain SAP. Works with ASC and FIU officials to determine whether students may continue in the program based on academic performance. Oversees and participates in advising for all MBGL degree students, ensuring the highest quality support and highest levels of student satisfaction.
  • Serves as the point-person for academic and social misconduct allegations, managing or referring cases consistent with university and ASC policies. Manages all instructional scheduling and faculty teaching. Ensures course offerings listed for students (including non-ASC listed courses) are up to date. Assists the Associate Director with faculty support and faculty issues as they arise.
  • Creates data-informed reports at the conclusion of each academic year and provides necessary information for university and state data reporting as required. Conducts student satisfaction surveys at least twice each academic year, resulting in formal data-driven recommendations in order to enhance programming, address deficiencies, and ensure rules compliance. Prepares and manages budgets for the program, conducting end-of-year financial analyses and ensuring accuracy in procurement and accounting functions. Serves as Chair of the Admissions Committee for the MBGL full-time and part-time programs (English language)
  • Serves on the Admissions Committee for the MBGL (Spanish language) programs. Serves as Co-Chair of the Scholarships Committee, presiding over a structured system for determining scholarship awards prior to matriculation. Assists with select recruiting activities, which may require occasional local, domestic, and international travel.
  • Works closely with the Associate Director and ASC staff to continually update and verify the accuracy of ASC's webpage and related social media regarding the MBGL. Serves as a liaison for the MBGL program within the university and to external organizations and individuals.
  • Performs related duties as required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning other duties related to the position.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of appropriate experience, or Master's degree and two (2) years of experience.


Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working in graduate degree programs.
  • Graduate degree in Leadership, Business, Public Affairs, Government or related field.
  • Supervisory/managerial experience.
