Minimum Requirements:

Education/Training

Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires one year of experience in program administration or involving academic, instructional or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Preferred Qualifications:

Work requires general knowledge of psychosocial support and pediatric healthcare, typically acquired through at least two years of professional experience. Experience in program coordination, patient or family support, community-based initiatives, digital communication, content creation, and event support is preferred.




  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Emotional intelligence and ability to engage with families under high stress and pediatric patients with complex medical conditions
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary medical, psychosocial, and program teams
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize competing responsibilities in a dynamic environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams)
  • Experience using Canva for content creation and graphic design
  • Comfort with digital communication platforms and social media management
  • Attention to detail in program logistics, documentation, and communications

The Family Support Coordinator provides relational, logistical, and programmatic support to Pediatric Transplant and Cellular Therapy (PTCT) patients and families at Duke, with a primary focus on outpatient family support before and after transplant. The role also actively supports Family Support Program (FSP) services, resources, and activities in inpatient settings as part of a collaborative team, helping to ensure continuity of care and connection for patients, caregivers, and siblings throughout the transplant journey.

In close partnership with the interdisciplinary PTCT medical, psychosocial, and Family Support teams, the Family Support Coordinator fosters continuity, communication, and a supportive environment for patients, caregivers, and siblings before, during, and after transplant. The role is responsible for specific program communications, including content creation for Family Support Program social media and contributions to the monthly Family Support Program newsletter. The coordinator also holds responsibility for assigned planning and tasks related to the Rainbow of Heroes Walk, the program's largest annual event and primary fundraiser.

This position requires flexibility and adaptability to meet program and family needs, including a willingness to travel between office and hospital settings. Outpatient clinic presence is an important component of the work, with the ability to support inpatient programming, special events, and initiatives as needed. Responsibilities may adjust over time in response to evolving program priorities and family needs.

Position Description:

Provide relational and logistical family support to PTCT patients and caregivers primarily in outpatient settings before and after transplant. Conduct pre-transplant touchpoints and orientation, support families during workups, consenting, and medical meetings, participate in outpatient interdisciplinary rounds and team meetings, facilitate outpatient family support groups and peer connections, and support long-term follow-up and social networking for families.

Provide support for Family Support Program services and activities in inpatient settings as part of a collaborative team, including caregiver support groups and respite, Bingo, unit special events, holiday programming, and community meals. Provide coverage and assistance for inpatient program delivery alongside FSP leadership as needed to ensure continuity of care.

Provide shared oversight and content creation for Family Support Program social media accounts; contribute content to the monthly Community Counts newsletter; assist with updates to Family Support Program website content; support program messaging in collaboration with FSP leadership and interdisciplinary partners.

Hold assigned planning responsibilities and tasks related to the Rainbow of Heroes Walk, including outreach to honorary patient families, support for posters and t-shirts, and coordination of assigned event logistics in collaboration with the Family Support team.

Support restocking and maintenance of Family Support Program resources in outpatient and inpatient settings; assist with volunteer coordination, inventory management, stewardship of in-kind donors and community partners, and general program operations as needed.

Participate in required trainings, staff meetings, professional development, documentation, and other duties as assigned to support evolving program priorities and family needs.
