What to Expect
As Tesla continues to vertically integrate our operations' we're looking for a highly motivated Facilities Mechanical Engineer to work on a critical challenge facing the world's energy transition to sustainable energy. Sustaining, operating, and optimizing a first-of-a-kind battery facility.
As a Facilities Mechanical Engineer, you will work closely with the design team, construction & commissioning team supporting projects from concept through design, installation, integration, ramp up, and long-term operations, sustainability & operations.
What You'll Do
- Understand and validate operating procedures for mechanical facilities equipment, including HVAC systems, hydronics systems, pumps, heat exchangers, chillers, boilers and dehumidifiers
- Effectively respond and support facilities operational process issues in a 24/7 production setting
- Support cross functional teams to develop commissioning, startup, and operations plans for mechanical systems (e.g., HVAC, air handling system, dehumidifier systems, etc.)
- Support maintenance and reliability engineering team to increase system reliability and efficiency
- Interface heavily with design, construction and installation teams to assure quality system delivery. Interact with tenants and ensure all engineering requests are effectively addressed
- Track design and operational changes to systems using the MOC process
- Understand and apply Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) concepts and root cause failure analysis to open-ended problems
- Communicate effectively and timely to stakeholders and the required engineering team
- Ability to prioritize and manage a heavy workload to ensure high quality and productivity
- Develop commissioning, startup, and operations plans for mechanical systems (HVAC, dry air, gas/chemical, hydronic, etc.)
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or the equivalent in experience
- 5+ years of experience supporting facilities
- Operations experience in datacenter or high-tech manufacturing facilities is preferred
- Intermediate knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and systems, including pumps, pneumatics, fans, flow meters, air handling systems, industrial chilled water, heating, process piping, rotating equipment, mass and heat transfer
- Knowledge and experience with writing sequences of operation for Process mechanical system
- Strong experience in data and system analysis
- System commissioning and startup experience is a plus
