Torch Technologies is seeking a Software Engineer to participate in the DoD SkillBridge Program, an in-person position located in Sterling Heights, MI.

As a Software Engineer, you will assist in the design, development, troubleshooting, and analysis of software programs for computer-based systems, and may perform systems modeling, simulation, and analysis. Responsibilities include developing software solutions to meet user requirements, planning and implementing software applications, and participating in testing and validation. You will also contribute to documentation and collaborate with team members and hardware design engineers.

This position is offered through the DoD SkillBridge Program. The Torch Technologies DoD SkillBridge Program is open to all ranks, enlisted or officer. We are proud to help our nation's service members make the transition from active duty to civilian life through specific industry training during the end of their service, up to 180 days. Service members will continue to receive military compensation and benefits through the Department of Defense. Upon completing the program, we aim to bring on every service member as a full-time employee.

This is an in-person position, located in Sterling Heights, MI.

As a Software Engineer (Skillbridge) your duties will include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Analyze user requirements and develop software solutions to meet them.
  • Plan, design, implement, test, and maintain portions of software applications.
  • Develop and maintain software planning and requirements documentation.
  • Contribute to user manuals and technical support documentation.
  • Participate in software testing, validation, and verification.
  • Support debugging, anomaly resolution, and troubleshooting.
  • Integrate third-party simulation models into a common simulation environment.
  • Collaborate with team members and work independently as needed.

Required Qualifications:

DoD SkillBridge Eligibility:

  • US Citizenship.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • To be eligible, you must be an active-duty service member within 2-4 months of separation or retirement, with an expected honorable discharge, and have received Unit Commander approval to participate in the DoD SkillBridge Program. Upon completing the program, there is a strong possibility of being hired as a full-time employee.
  • Currently an active-duty service member.
  • Is within 2-4 months of separation or retirement.
  • Will receive an honorable discharge.
  • Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS.
  • Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months.
  • Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to the start of the internship; some bases may require an MOU, an MOU should be completed between the base and Torch as required.
