Our team is currently seeking a remote Information Systems Security Officer to o provide Information Assurance / Information Protection (IA/IP) services at Scott Air Force Base (SAFB), IL

The Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) will support the 375th Medical Group (375 MDG) at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. This role is ideal for a cybersecurity professional looking to build hands-on experience in a DoD and Defense Health Agency (DHA) environment creating RMF, vulnerability management, and cybersecurity tool administration, as well as providing limited desktop and network troubleshooting support within the medical enclave.

Responsibilities

  • Support ISSO functions for the 375 MDG information system enclave.
  • Assist with RMF activities including:

    • System registration and asset inventory
    • Preparation and maintenance of RMF artifacts in eMASS
    • Support of DHA software approval requests


  • Assist with continuous monitoring activities, including:

    • Uploading ACAS scan results
    • Tracking POA&Ms
    • Maintaining security control documentation


  • Perform vulnerability scanning and compliance checks using:

    • ACAS / Tenable Security Center
    • SCAP Compliance Checker
    • STIGs


  • Perform administration and support tasks for cybersecurity tools, including:

    • Firewalls
    • Host and Network Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS)
    • SIEM tools
    • Anti-malware solutions


  • Conduct research on new tool features, versions, patches, and vendor fixes to support secure and reliable operations.
  • Support security engineering projects.
  • Perform troubleshooting of cybersecurity tools and escalate issues to senior staff as needed.
  • Assist with tuning and configuration changes following established change management processes.
  • Apply patches, updates, and configuration changes to servers and endpoints using approved tools such as MECM and GPO.
  • Provide limited desktop support and network troubleshooting support for 375 MDG personnel as required.



Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • 2+ year of hands-on experience in cybersecurity, information assurance, or IT security support (internships and lab experience acceptable).
  • Basic understanding of NIST RMF concepts and security controls.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity tools such as:

    • ACAS
    • STIGs
    • SCAP
    • SIEM or endpoint security tools


  • Active CompTIA Security+ certification (required).
  • Active U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance (required).
  • Strong willingness to learn and work under senior technical guidance.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.



Preferred / Developmental Qualifications

  • (ISC) Certified in Governance, Risk and Compliance (CGRC) (or ability to obtain).
  • Familiarity with eMASS or other GRC platforms.
  • Experience supporting healthcare or regulated IT environments.
  • Interest in growing into a mid-level ISSO or ISSM role.
