Job Summary

Prepares and maintains detailed design drawings, schematics or specifications typically using computer-aided design software | Works closely with design originators (e.g., engineers, designers) to resolve design details or discrepancies or to prepare drawings of unusual, complex or original designs which require a high degree of precision using computer-aided drafting (CAD) or computer-aided engineering (CAE) equipment | Creates, modifies and controls detailed two- and three-dimensional parts and assembly drawings from engineers' and technicians' sketches, plans and written and verbal instructions | Develops and maintains drafting standards and procedures | Evaluates and recommends purchase of CAD/CAE-related computer hardware and software

  • Completes a variety of atypical assignments
  • Works within defined technical processes and procedures or methodologies and may help determine the appropriate approach for new assignments
  • Works with a limited degree of supervision, with oversight focused only on complex new assignments
  • Acts as an informal resource for colleagues with less experience
  • Performs manual tasks according to established procedures


Essential Functions

  • Utilizes computer-aided design (CAD) software and other techniques, standards, and tools to prepare technical drawings.
  • Prepares computer-aided design (CAD) drafts, drawings, and schematics derived from a variety of specifications, layouts, blueprints, and sketches.
  • Maintains deadlines, goals, and production standards set by the department.
  • Communicates with engineers and designers to aid in the completion of projects.
  • Transforms initial rough product designs into working documents using CAD software.
    Collaborates with design originators to resolve discrepancies between original drawings and final CAD designs.


Required Qualifications

  • Required education and experience: Vocational/Technical Training Degree and 7-8 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred education and experience: Associate's Degree
  • Knowledge, skills & abilities: 3D CAD. Computer Aided Design (CAD). Computer Aided Drafting & Design (CADD). Design Review. Engineering Support. Mechanical Drawing. Technical Drafting. CAD Software. Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) Software.
  • Critical professional related technical skills; computer skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)


Physical Requirements

  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
  • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time


Travel Requirements

No or very little travel likely.
