The Modernization Project Office (MPO) is responsible for the engineering, design, cost estimating, scheduling, and project controls on conventional construction projects, including the selection of architectural/engineering firms, contractors and others engaged for these projects.

Position Description

The Modernization Project Office (MPO) is currently hiring a Construction Inspector, The Construction Inspector will inspect architectural installations, room layouts, roofing/ siding, facade/ curtainwall, interior finishes, foundations, and site work associated with new construction and/or renovation work to ensure conformance with contract documents and applicable codes and standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of daily narrative reports.
  • Verification of work performed on contractor payment applications.
  • Coordination of construction work with facility operations and other stakeholders.
  • Responsible for quality of work.
  • Verification of contractor compliance with contract drawings and specifications.
  • Coordination of construction activities with facility user and support divisions to meet operational requirements.
  • Responsible for verifying installation against shop drawings and specifications
  • Conformance with contractual safety requirements.
  • Work Overtime on weekends or extended hours to accommodate contractor work schedules.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Requires 5+ years of field experience in all facets of construction, including scheduling of work, inspection of interior finishes, facade/ curtainwall, Foundations / Building Layout / Roofing/ Site Work
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Working knowledge of the latest version of the ICC building codes.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Able to work Overtime on weekends or extended hours to accommodate contractor work schedules.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Requires 10+ years of field experience in all facets of construction, including scheduling of work, inspection of interior finishes, facade/ curtainwall, Foundations / Building Layout / Roofing/ Site Work
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Civil engineering
  • ICC Certified Building Inspector.
  • NICET Level II and III Certification.
  • Knowledge of fire-stopping, fire-rated construction, and/or fire-proofing.
  • OSHA 30-hour training.
  • Building Envelope Commissioning and/or General Building Commissioning process.

  • Heat exposure (environmental or PPE)
  • Repetitive motion; ergonomic hazards

  • Good near vision; depth perception; normal color vision
  • Heights (high and low hazard)
  • Lifting (up to 40 lbs); frequent bending/twisting
  • Use of vertical ladders (>4 ft)

Other Information:

  • This is a fully onsite position located at BNL.
  • Visa sponsorship for this position is not available.
  • Hours: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
  • Must be available after hours and/or weekends to meet project deadlines or requirements.

Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. This is a multi-level role and the full salary range for this position is $89400 - $156150 / year. You will be placed at the level and salary commensurate with your experience. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
