JOB SUMMARY The Cashier assists the supervisor with processing daily deposits from all cash collecting locations throughout the Health System. Assists at Supervisor's window when necessary. Makes change, greets customers, promptly receipts, and appropriately applies all payments. Reconciles cash receipts and cash applications; maintains and balances cash drawer daily. Records variances on appropriate logs and promptly reports discrepancies to Supervisor. Updates patient demographic and insurance information online as needed. Communicates security issues promptly to Supervisor. Understands and utilizes computer system in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. Adheres to internal control policies and procedures. Cross-trains and is familiar with all tasks in the Cashier's Office; accepts additional duties as assigned. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Ensures that the cash control sheet is completed daily in a timely manner. Ensures that the cash control sheet balances consistently. If the cash control sheet is found to be out of balance, ensures it is corrected in a timely manner (within one to two days). Ensures accounts receivable cash postings are verified and balanced against the general ledger on a daily basis. Ensures credit card receipts are balanced and verified against the general ledger on a daily basis. Ensures night collections are balanced and verified with the general ledger on a daily basis. Greets customers in a friendly manner directing them to financial counseling when appropriate. Adheres to internal control policies and procedures. Willingly accepts other duties as assigned. EDUCATION Required: High School Diploma or GED is required. . Preferred: College background is preferred. EXPERIENCE Required: One year of experience in general office duties involving handling cash flow and accounting for the recording of these funds is required. Preferred: Experience in the healthcare field is preferred. SKILLS - Must be able to accurately type 30 to 35 WPM. - Use of office equipment and computers is required. - Must possess strong customer seivice skills; an understanding of third party reimbursement is preferred.
