We are seeking a Staff Research Scientist with a strong background in image quality optimization, new technology introduction, and reliability engineering for the development of next-generation inspection tools. The candidate will lead research initiatives, collaborating with mechanical, optical, electrical, software, and other systems engineers to advance core technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive image quality improvements through data acquisition optimization, hardware refinement, and advanced calibration strategies.
  • Investigate and propose innovative concepts for next-generation imaging and inspection capabilities
  • Lead system-level qualification and integration for advanced SEM platforms.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and guide corrective actions for imaging performance issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in optics, electronics, and software to achieve tool performance goals.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of image processing, signal analysis, and system optimization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a track record of innovation.
  • Effective communicator able to share technical information with functional groups and provide executive-level reports to management and customers.
  • Experience with control systems, hardware/software integration, and algorithm development.
  • Experience defining work plans, DOEs, and test strategies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient in MATLAB or Python for data analysis and experimentation
  • Familiarity with SEM calibration techniques and image quality metrics.
  • Industry experience in one or more of the following:
  • Research and development of complex imaging systems.
  • Optical or electro-optical inspection tools.
  • System engineering or integration.
  • Semiconductor industry.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate (Academic) Degree and related work experience of 3 years; Master's Level Degree and related work experience of 6 years; Bachelor's Level Degree and related work experience of 8 years

Base Pay Range: $159,500.00 - $271,200.00 Primary Location: USA-CA-Milpitas-KLA KLA's total rewards package for employees may also include participation in performance incentive programs and eligibility for additional benefits including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, life, and other voluntary benefits, 401(K) including company matching, employee stock purchase program (ESPP), student debt assistance, tuition reimbursement program, development and career growth opportunities and programs, financial planning benefits, wellness benefits including an employee assistance program (EAP), paid time off and paid company holidays, and family care and bonding leave.

Interns are eligible for some of the benefits listed. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
